I am 28 yrs old for crying out loud, and I am hearing noises and scared of the dark, and feeling paranoid there is something under my bed. Seriously, wtf is up with that. I was in the bathroom when I heard a noise downstairs which I would normally assume is one of my cats. Except all 3 of my cats were with me in/just outside of the bathroom, and both my kids are asleep. Is anyone else a scaredy cat like me?

I adopted the mindset that if they want me they can have me ... I don't even lock my door any more till I go to bed ... it is exstream I know ... but for me my options were to keep a gun by my side ...I no longer even have one ... very freeing ... but this not for everyone .... I just could not stand the fear anymore ... so I just gave in and excepted my fate what ever it may be ....

I sleep with the hall lights on but mainly for my 6 yr old. She also sleeps with the lamp on in her room all night because if she wakes up and it's off, she will scream and freak out until it's on. I usually watch my cats to see if they act weird and if they are acting normally then I feel a bit better. They're all on my bed acting pretty normal so I'm calming down but I feel silly. Glad to know I'm not alone.

There is a master bath off the bedroom directly in front of the bed.
I have to have the door shut at night. I think there are evil spirits coming into the bedroom if I don't shut the door.
I am afraid of the dark.

I use old Christmas lights and keep all the animals nearby. I recently discovered they're as anxious as I am, so they're all still there when I wake up, even if the cats leave in the middle of the night to attack each other/scream at each other, or the dog decides to go guard the door for a while (he's defense trained).

I do get this occasionally. I will control every room, every cupboard and lock the door three times. I sleep with music, that helps.

The first time I was to stay alone at our remote rain forest ranch in Costa Rica I was very apprehensive.
I lay awake worrying.
Then I woke my husband and asked him what I should do if I heard something in the jungle in the middle of the night?
Have asleep, he rolled over and cut a big fart and went back to sleep.
It's been a running joke in our home for years. Now I'm not scared.
