My p and t are only giving me "when-needed"-medication right now. I get Promethazine.
I took two yesterday because I felt I wouldn't be able to sleep. I am still rather energetic but way less than the last weeks, because I never took to. Anyway it's been more than twelve hours since I took it (and I can feel myself getting more energetic again). How long does it last? And what else do you think about it? |

I read that they use Promethazine in parts of Europe for sedation. I don't know all that much about it except that its an effective sedative and sometimes a good alternative to low dose antipsychotics or benzodiazepines, both of which can cause problems for a lot of people.
Is it helping? That's the big thing. If you can keep your life running smoothly just on as needed Promethazine, then that could spare you heavy medication(s), which is always a good thing. |

It does help, yes. It takes about two hours for me to kick in, but then I usually get tired and the irritability subsides. Anyway, it is a medication that I prefer to take when I want to sleep, not to make me more concentrated or less angry during the day, because it makes me too sleepy usually and I get a little dizzy. Works quite similar to Benzos for me.

I used it to help me sleep. I used to have insomnia and I would feel sick the next day. Promethazine helped with the nausea if it didn't help me sleep. Knowing that I would have something to fight the nausea helped me sleep better. I never even considered it to manage moods.
Turns out, though, the reason I felt so nauseous after missing a night's sleep is because of how much I was drinking to try to get sleep. I haven't used it once since I stopped drinking.

About ten years ago i had lost some weight, and afterwards i had gall bladder issues to where i would get very nauseated and poop up a storm if i ate anything iffy. A dr finally gave me promethazine. It was heavenly, thats all i remember.
