I am so tired. But I am so awake at the same time. My body is tired because it has been a week that I am sleeping very badly.
It is not like when I get happy hypomania (those times I stay up until four in the morning and go to work at eight, no problem). This time I want to go to bed, but it feels like my body forgot how to fall asleep. Tonight fo example I fell asleep after some tossing and turning around and woke up again four in the morning. I usually get two to five hours of sleep and then I use to drift away a little but it doesn't feel like sleeping. Moreover I wake up all the time and I dream a lot. Strangest thing is that sometimes I go to bed at around midnight and I have a look at the clock at 4:30 in the morning and am convinced I haven't slept yet but the time passed so fast that I must have fallen asleep at least a little. I guess I am just never falling into those phases of deep sleep anymore. Anyone knows this pattern combined with hypo? |

Again, yes I have had similar experiences when not euphoric hypo. All I want is a break from the torment but I can't seem to sleep longer than five, broken hours. And at times during the day I feel tired, especially the mornings but still cannot nap. I only sleep if I take and emergency dose of Zyprexa, which i despise doing due to the possible weight gain. But I did last night and slept a solid eight hours. It did help but the other symptoms returned with a vengeance once I woke so even sleeping didn't seem to help things thought I am sure it must have done some good. Hope you have good appointment with your T and pdoc next week and that they can help you calm down and get some rest.

That's how I sleep most nights since ending geodon. Went to bed last night after two, woke up twice and got up at 6:11.
My pdoc knows this and said take 2 benedryl. I had already tried that but just told him ok and started taking 3. Still didn't work so he, get this.... prescribed me a pill!! Hydroxyzine!! (Its prescription benedryl) ![]() I've tried bedtime routines and rituals..herbal teas. Nothing.

The only thing they prescribe me is promethazine and sometimes it works just fine but unfortunately i lost the prescription they gave me last time and am now running low on pills.
i just had a few weeks in january and february when i would just fall asleep and sleep some eight hours without waking up. it was heaven. i miss it a lot. i don't know if they have promethazine in the states but maybe you could ask your doc about it? |

I have triazolam because of the kind of sleep you're describing. Nothing can touch me when it comes to sleep. Apparently, I'm supposed to take it daily now... I think if my pdoc knew my drug history he'd take it away... it's not exactly relevant anyway anymore. Ancient history except when it comes to pain relief and cravings, really. Lucky for me, the assume my tolerance to opiates was caused by cancer surgery... even then, I had dilaudid... despite the fact that my daughter was exposed to nothing but a small amount of nicotine and a lot of coffee in the womb, she has a similar tolerance, though. Both of my parents were heroin addicts (mom quit many years before she passed, dad is presumed still alive & definitely still using). Anyway, I'm derailing your thread. Sorry. Yeah. I have major sleep issues, too. I get that. I don't know wth I'd do without the triazolam. Even seroquel didn't work. Never tried zyprexa. Maybe that would? Idk. I figure it would take a cocktail of art least five to knock me out and I'm better off with one potentially addictive one. Update: just remembered something... they gave me promethazine during most of my pregnancy to "keep me calm" before I was dx'd. Nice, huh? Probably why only dilaudid works on my kid

What was your sleep pattern before this hypomaic state? In relation to this are you sleeping less? I think it is all relative. I usually sleep 12-14hrs per day. I am currently, I believe, swinging up in mood. I am likely even hypomanic already. Yes, I too am tired but I am operating on far less sleep. It is still a great deal more than most hypomanics but in consideration, 7-8 hrs sleep is considerably less than usual.

I'm in the middle of a med adjustment and went from sleeping 18hrs a day (that's NEVER happened before) for a few days to about 4 (which is why I normally take the sleeper). I'm exhausted all the time. Once I get moving, I'm not noticing it. I think I'm back on track to return to work Friday. But I think for me, "hypo" is just medicated, especially since my coworkers frequently tell me I'm too damn manic (I'm type 1).
I don't know what my sig says because I'm using stupid tapatalk, but I'm on 1500mg of depakote, 3mg timed xanax, 0.5 triazolam, and 160mg ziprasidone (geodon)... so... all anti-manic type stuff. But I have weird chemistry.

Well, when I am really Feeling good I will sleep 7 to 8 hours a night. Happened in my vacations. 6 is fine too. When it starts to be between three and six all the time something is wrong.

Sort of. Before I tip into full blown mania I can feel some fatigue while I'm hypo. It doesn't last long though and then it's like I'm back to being a super powerful being that doesn't need sleep or food or anything.

I definitely experience this. I am usually a very good sleeper - I can fall asleep fast and sleep deeply for 8-9 hours. This is true even if I have bad anxiety, unless hypo is in the mix, in which case it takes me hours to fall asleep and my sleep is broken with vivid dreams so that I don't feel rested at all. Even though he knows I can't help it, my husband gets really annoyed because I move around and am all twitchy, so I usually go "sleep" on the couch. It sux. I feel for ya.

Definitely. I ONLY have mixed episodes. I've had euphoric hypomania just a handful of times. I have to take 100mg seroquel at night every single night to keep myself sleeping. It has worked pretty well for a couple years, but when I miss a dose, sometimes my sleeping is just like you described. It's not always like that because my illness isn't predictable at all. The mixes of symptoms are constantly changing. So I don't have the experience you described all the time, but I have it sometimes.

I normally get about 10 hours of sleep, though. Then when I'm hypomanic, I get 4-6. It's more like 0-4 when I'm full-blown manic. If I sleep like 2 hours, then I will feel exhausted and need to nap, typically for about another 2-3 hours depending on the time of day. |
