In the last 6 weeks my moods have swung from manic to hypomanic to depressed to mixed. This can happen in the same day or over a few days. I can't seem to find stable for longer than a day.

Does anyone else have this happens sometimes? I'm not talking about all the time but just during episodes. Is this mixed or ultra rapid cycling?

This happened to me until I went on clozaril and since then I've not had a lot of cycling to compare. I think it is a combination of mixed and ultra-rapid cycling. I tried mood charting every time my mood changed for a few weeks once in the midst of one of those times and the chart looked like constant, severe earthquakes on a seismograph. Even daily charts looked like that.

Until clozaril it was normal for me to have that happen pretty much every time I started cycling. My pdoc and therapist are both so proud of me right now because 2 weeks ago or so I picked up on subtle warning signs I was starting to cycle and lowered my AD immediately which stopped the cycling, instead of letting it get out of control as usually would happen. Before clozaril that was impossible because I wouldn't have known hypomania from mixed from bad mood from irritable.

I'm sorry you are feeling that; I know it is truly awful.

It happens to me all the time and my psychologist says it will continue to while we are still playing with medication combinations and dosage. Mine also has to do with other illness's interfering with my Bipolar too. Just remember it takes time and its really good that you are able to pick up on it.

I've never noted lots of episodes; but the abruptness of the shifts when they happen is just really scary to me. Even more so now that I know what it is. I mean seriously, last summer, I'd been crashing around the outside of the house, dead in the middle of painting the exterior, high up on a ladder, and my energy just crashed. I went inside, barely wiped off with a towel; crashed on the floor, and that was it... for I guess 4 months or so. One day 2-3 hours sleep... 10-14+ from then on.
