Dear Friends, do you ever break stuff when you extremely angry -- raging/furious? Some of you know that 2 days ago, I smashed my cell phone to death with a hammer. I had already tried to kill it, twice, by throwing it up against a wall. That phone was tough -- so I went to the tool drawer for a hammer and smashed it over and over and over.

That's the fourth time in 30 years that I've smashed a phone. But only twice did I totally killed a phone.

Now I have come up with a scheme to avoid breaking valuable stuff when I'm extremely angry. I need to break stuff, since I don't scream anymore, due to frightening my kitty when I scream.

So I am going to a thrift store and buy 4 of the cheesiest, ugliest coffee mugs I can find. When I get real mad, I will put thick newspapers on the kitchen floor and smash a mug to death with my hammer. Fun!!! Relief!

No I never have because I find people who do that really silly.
My bf used to kick the table leg when he was really angry and one time he kicked it so hard that he broke his toe.
I laughed so hard I couldn't breath.

When I go to stores like Marshall's, I think those cute, tacky bric-a-brac things they sell, are just things to throw when you're mad!

My kitchen is full of broken and dented things from losing control of rage. That doesn't happen anymore. Between the zero'd out testosterone and the depakote, I finally get to be calm.

I have a tendency to lose my **** every once in a while. My son's toys get punted a lot (he shouldn't leave them all over!) Also recently threw my cell phone at the wall. It didn't break, but it took a chunk out of my wall. Once threw a small shelf at the wall. Also once smashed a carton of broth on my (carpeted) living room floor. Those are just a few. I hate when I lose control like that.

I damn near broke my hand punching a refrigerator. I've also slammed full plates of food against the wall, kicked a hole in my apartment door with my sandaled foot, broken glasses and more. I don't do those things anymore because meds have controlled my temper for years now. I don't even get angry much anymore---few things are worth getting worked up over, and my blood pressure thanks me for it.

Flower I have smashed ugly thrift store dishes for decades .... long before BP diagnosis IN a garbage bag so I have almost zero cleanup.

I have never destroyed anything of importance thankfully

Gosh!! The same plan, pretty much, except I love the garbage bag!!! Congratulations to "us" for our "damage" plans.

Ho Ho Hee Hee -- OMG everyone!! Such similar experiences with rage and breakages!!! I don't feel so alone now. I almost broke my toe once, too. My verbally and emotionally abusive (ex) husband was so mean, he got me into such a rage one time and I kicked him in the shin. Made a bleeding wound on his skin (not serious, not huge), and pushed my toe back so it was not as long as it used to be.

With regards to meds and therapy: My therapist and I have worked on this for years, and I'm not sure any progress on this particular thing has occurred. On other things,my T has been super great. I'm much much better off than I was when we started working together (about ten years ago, I think). For a long time I had at one session a week, or two if things were really going badly for me. Finally, I pretty much graduated. It went to about once a month, now, hardly ever.

Regarding meds, some med cocktails curb my anger, irritation and rage. Some don't so much. Being ultra rapid cycling, my meds quit working from time to time. I have to either tweak or change meds. So I never know what the next kind of side effects will be.

yeah.. breaking stuff makes me feel so good at the time

not sure about afterwards though, especially after i've realised actually, I needed that!
as well as break stuff, I tear stuff up

on my wall I have pictures of things I can randomly tear if I want too

but smmashing stuff is better!

I used to buy cheap glassware at Goodwill and garage sales so I had something to smash when I got mad.

The most memorable thing I ever threw was a stainless steel coffee cup... actually dented it.

As I've gotten older, the rages seem to have faded. Something to look forward to.
