Hey Everyone,
After having some issues/stressors/difficulties, I finally call my pdoc. She wants me to come in earlier than my regular appointment with her and my therapist. She upped my dose of Seroquel to twice the original dose. I started it Monday, and I actually slept. My thoughts didn’t jump through flaming hoops suspended over a shark tank, and I haven't been experiencing so many hallucinations. Sounds good, right? I thought so, but now the drowsiness of the Seroquel kind of lingers. At times, I find myself dozing off while I’m in my office. I have taken naps after work, which is very rare for me. I also think that it is wreaking havoc with my appetite. It’s like I have the munchies or something. I’m trying to come down on the scale. My numbers are still good (blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol), so I don’t want to choose between sanity and more weight gain. I was on Seroquel a number of years ago, but I forgot why the doctor back then took me off it. Have any of you had any issues with Seroquel when you were prescribed it? Thanks. ![]() |

Seroquel gave me the raving munchies and I put on a lot of weight quickly. If I had of been able to eat less the weight gain would be reduced. It does make you tired too but I found the XR less sedating. I'm glad it is helping you. I hope you. An find a way to manage the side effects. Abilify works well for me with psychosis and mood stabilisation but doesn't calm racing thoughts as much. There are other options if Seroquel isn't right for you.

I know how you feel, I've been on it for 9 months now and still get the munchies. As for feeling drowsy that does wear off. In fact I've gone back to square one after nine months, can't sleep, mania set back in, and much more. Just be careful

Been on Seroquel in the past as an AP, and now I take 25-50mg PRN for sleep. Higher doses give me the munchies. I've found that Psyllium capsules do a lot to abate the munchies, so it might be something to look into. I get you on the sedation, that's why I had to get off the higher dose.

Seroquel really helps with my sleep. I can't say it has done anything else for me, however. I've gained a lot of weight on Seroquel because it feels like I am constantly very hungry. I am not an overeater by nature, not at all. It's just that Seroquel does something with my hunger switch so that if I don't eat I literally feel starving hungry. Besides helping me with sleep, I can't say that Seroquel has done anything else that's particularly helpful. But many people do find Seroquel helpful, so it's a very individual thing. I am now taking only 25 mg. for sleep.

I have been on Seroquel for years. It has the opposite affect on me, I don't crave food. Sleep is wonderful. Sometimes I use it to lower my mood when I am creeping into hypomania. With 100 mg, I can drop my mood in 30 minutes, but I have to be careful of when I take it. For example, I don't drive while on it. So I'll take it at the end of the day when I don't have an activity that requires that I be attentive.

I took 200 for a year, and am now back on it.
The only thing that i noticed was restless leg, and a foggy morning. |

I've been on it for 12 years and currently take 450mg at bedtime. Without it I absolutely will not sleep. And yea it makes me feel like crap when I wake up. A lot of times for the whole day. But it's the price I pay for a nights sleep I guess. I also take naps.

Seroquel made my life alot better. But I had fatigue as a major side effect. It would make me sleep 10+ hours straight.
When I switched pdoc's my new one told me that I should take it at noon and later at 8 (breaking up the dose) as well as take my other med lamictal in the morning instead of night. It really worked. I sleep a normal amount of hours, but I'm also not fatigued during the day. The hunger and weight gain thing was also hard, I got used to the cravings but I still gained weight under my normal diet (pre seroquel), because it still slows metabilism. But once I decreased my caloric intake it got alot better - though i eat alot less than normal people -- but i also feel fine. |

It worked great for me, but gave me a blood clot in my leg when my does was upped. Apparently that's a 1 in 10,000 chance, so I should have bought a lottery ticket, but if you start feeling pain in your leg, get it checked out.

I can say it saved my life. I was ready to suck the exhaust pipe on my car. Mania was horrible for me. I have ADHD as well and the combination made me crave stimulation. There was nothing I could do to satisfy the craving. After I started Seroquel my mind calmed down and I have a semi normal life now.

I was on a low dose for sleep and it worked great until my heart started racing and on occasion I would forget how to swallow.
