Hi,

Who has done this?

What happened?

I did this once when i was baseline and i got hypo. But i did this last weekend and nothing noticeable happened. I want to try it again because i am bored to death.. the boredom is what gets me. I absolutely need to be stimulated or i get angry/depressed.

This happens to me a lot... not by choice. I'm just an insomniac. It doesn't make me hypo, just tired and grouchy.

Arg. I don't understand how it can make me hypo once, but not other times?

Does it simply exasperate already felt feelings?

Yeah it definitely dosent always lead to hypo
Sometimes it makes you more depressed and anxious
If you are feeling it already (some hypo) then it escalates it ect
I think true hypo comes when it wants lol

Yup. When I'm depressed I tend to sleep a lot less than when I'm stable. It's not really by choice though. It's that the [negative] thoughts racing through my mind won't let me sleep, or I only half-sleep (tossing and turning; half-awake, half-asleep) and it always makes me that much more irritable and angry.

Then again, I'm stable now and I've been staying up really late lately, simply because it's my quiet time.

Hi,

I've been like this numerous time. It makes me have a "HIGH", however too much makes me crash after. The sad things I've learned over the years is living with Bipolar means to have a solid sleeping pattern. It can trigger an episode if your sleeping pattern isn't a routine.

I try to get in and out of bed at the same time. I found this helps me control my moods.

Any thoughts?

I always lean towards insomnia when severely depressed. Lack of sleep makes me more depressed and anxious. It has also caused me to end up in a mixed episode.

That is interesting, that many seem to have sleep troubles when depressed. I tend to be the typical tired depressive, and staying up all night would be a big effort for me. It seems not to be worth the trouble since it may just magnify my current state.

digest - I think that sounds pretty reasonable, though i feel like i am in desperate need of a change right now. Anything.

I am constantly tired and sleeping when I am depressed. That said, I usually (if I can fight the urge created by my meds) try to stay up and wallow in sad music and in my own saddness. I think it makes me feel more alive to at least experience saddness (even though it is pitiful). It has never created mania or hypomania that I am aware of, but I have woke up in a state of panic, catching myself pacing and shaking while brushing my teeth.

Interesting you say that - I find that helps in my case as well.

Engulfing myself in a negative feeling helps me get over it a lot fast, even though the depression has it's own clock, i at least can start to deal with it head on as opposed to pretend like it isn't there, which seems to just make things worse when it inevitably pops up

I tend to be awake at night and sleep most of the day when I'm depressed or manic. When I'm depressed I'll still watch TV and movies until late cuz I still need my meds to be able to sleep. Regardless of mood (manic or depressed ) when I am manic though my racing mind is overpowering of even the meds and what would normally take me an hour after taking to fall asleep could take still 4 or 5 hours. Sleep and maintaining consistent cycles with it can be difficult when ur bipolar is rapid cycling.
