I am curious how other ip system works compared to the one i went to. first time i saw a psyc dr. second time it was just a tech and a dr who pushed way to hard and didnt even ask me any questions and she assumed i saw things which i dont yet..and the hospital dont care once you are released unless you have money or health insurance.

The place I was ip in was excellent. I saw my psych doc everyday. I also had a social worker. All of the staff were caring and friendly. Lots of groups to help also. I'm very thankful for my stay there.
Thanks for this!

So I have health insurance, the doc I saw inpatient every day became my primary pdoc who I saw first about once a week then once a month after I was stable....after he moved practice to the VA he transferred me to a new pdoc closer to my work, I see her once every six months. I got excellent care.....

I saw a pdoc and therapist daily. I met with a medical doctor once to do a quick physical checkup. On the weekends a different pdoc would do rounds and ask how we were doing and if we had any questions. Before I was discharged, the therapist scheduled future pdoc and therapy appointments with outside providers that took my insurance. I also had to come up with a plan for how I would handle stress and who I would reach in a crisis. Once I was actually discharged, there was no follow up.

you will see a pdoc a psychiatrist and you will talk to techs about things that are happening. i saw a pdoc every morning and techs throughout the day. be honest so you will receive the help you need. They will treat you with meds and talk things out too. you will have groups with other patients and you will see how you are not alone.

At the IP facility I end up at we see a doctor or resident every day except Sunday. There really isn't any follow up system, except to set up outpatient appointments or IOP. No real complaints from me.

In my hospital patients see a psychiatrist every day, including weekends. They also have a medical doctor meet with each patient soon after intake to be sure to have a good medical history and make sure other medical needs get treated while there. Each patient also had a social worker who coordinated care between all doctors, therapists, nurses, etc. and made sure each patient was set up with appropriate outpatient care before being discharged. Groups were led by the social workers, therapists, and nurses on staff. There was no individual therapy as this was an acute crisis management program, not long-term hospitalization; however, if you needed to talk to someone individually, most of the staff was very willing and quite able to listen supportively and helpfully.

What grace said. Decades ago I saw my pdoc inpatient but most Pdocs now days don't do hospitals. Also long ago I would see my T too but again most Ts no longer do hospitals. Now days IP tends to be very short and crisis orientations they don't keep you long enough to really stabilize unless you have very good insurance and a private pdoc that does the hospital so you see a hospital pdoc or resident.

As with all jobs, some cops and doctors care, while for others it's just a paycheck. It's luck of the draw on who you get. ((Hugs))

My experience was much like lolagrace's. I do have to say there are two different mental hospitals in my city. One is run privately and is quiet nice and the other is state run and very rough (having heard this from a family member who had to spend months in there. Unfortunately someone was even killed there). My experience only comes from the privately owned. You see the psychiatrist affiliated with the hospital, usually not your own individual one. When they discharged me they made sure to have appointments set up for me with my therapist and psychiatrist and usually there is no follow up from the hospital from that point on once you are discharged. My only request would have been to let my personal psychiatrist see me every day since he knows my history and has been with me for a long time. The psychiatrists there were not as good in my opinion. I'm sorry you are having such a tough time. Thinking of you...

I go to a private hospital. They will not release you until you are better, compliant but not drug seeking, eating well, and attending group. You see a pdoc daily. There's about 5 groups every day and free time. It's long and boring. They wake you up at 6 and lights out at ten. Night meds are given at 7 so usually I'm sleeping by 9.

The social worker usually talks to your family and sets up after care if your not already in the system. There is no follow up.

I agree with this experience as well.

I believe there's a charge for any and all emergency services, but it all gets wrapped up in the hospital bill. Its not like the cop is going to shake you down for spare change on the way to the hospital.

Its no different than a ride in an ambulance, just cheaper I think.

Cheaper still to get there yourself or have a friend take you.
