i have rx for both 25mg and 50 mg seroquel..usually 1/2 of a 25mg seroquel puts me to sleep easily but if i'm very stressed/anxious, i'll need the other 1/2 of 25mg seroquel which does the trick.

i cut the 50mg of seroquel in 1/4 so the dosage is about the same as cutting the 25mg of seroquel in 1/2...but i have noticed that the last 2 nights of using 1/4 of the 50 mg seroquel has done the opposite of sedating me: it has activated rather than sedated.

can the brand of 50mg cause the activation? cannot figure out why i'm not getting similar sleep when cutting the 50mg in 1/4. would appreciate any input or info.

12.5 or 25mg Seroquel should be sedating. At higher doses it can be less sedating, but that's not until you get north of 150-200mg. Not sure why you'd have this reaction.

I'd guess the change in sleep is unrelated to the Seroquel.
Many factors figure into sleep patterns.
Could the change in sleep be due to something else?

no change in sleep; wear orange glasses blocking blue lights starting at 6pm and always go to bed at same time and have had no stress alcohol coffee these past 2 nights...that's why i'm attributing the 50mg seroquel having some sort of effect that i don't get from the 25mg...go figure.

i dunno. low doses of seroquel are kinda like taking a more sedating Benadryl. its an antihistamine until you hit a certain dose...i wanna say a couple 100mgs, but i havent read about it in forever.

anyway, now and then sedating antihistamines can have an unexpected (I believe the jargon term is 'paradoxical') effect of stimulation or causing anxiety, agitation, etc.

if you're on low doses anyway, have you talked to the doctor about something else? there's always hydroxyzine. its an antihistamine that can be used at a wide range of doses for anxiety, sleep, and...well...allergies, now and then.

hope this helps.

i just brought both bottles to pharmacist and she had no idea why i had the `reaction' to the 50mg seroquel since both are made by same manufacturer; then called manufacturer to ask questions which they are passing on to others in the pharmaceutical co., but she did say there are no studies to find results of the medication being cut in half or quarters...and i may hear from someone else at the company...so i'll not use the 50mg seroquel and continue using the 25mg seroquel since i've never had probs. before. go figure.
