Does your weight fluctuate depending on which episode you're in?
My weight really fluctuates. I gain weight, then I lose weight. When I'm in an episode I lose weight, no matter what the episode is. When I'm stable I end up somewhere in the middle, like I'll lose weight down to 118lbs, and then when I'm stable it ends up between that and 130. I was just wondering if this happens to anyone else.

I only deal with depression (no hypomania). In the past my weight has gone up a great deal as I'm in the episode and sometimes come down and sometimes not when I am through it. Here lately I've been losing weight with each episode as I don't feel like eating. I am having gastrointestinal issues right now that are making my weight vary by as much as 25-40 pounds depending on rather I'm sick or not sick so that could be clouding it. Sorry I wasn't more helpful.

I usually gain weight with depression; however, during this long bout, I have made a concerted effort and am losing. I need to keep my fingers crossed on this, as it's not easy. Some of my non-psych meds also cause wt. gain.

Years ago I used to lose weight in depression because starving myself was a form of self harm for me and made me feel better. I had other unhealthy coping skills too. Now when depressed I use food as comfort because I don't indulge in any of my other vices anymore (except smoking cigarettes). So I tend to gain when depressed. And now thanks to high prolactin I gain extremely quickly. So even one week of eating like **** sends me up 4-5 pounds.
I haven't been hypomanic or manic in so long I can't say if I would gain or lose then.

I'm consistently inconsistent with weight. When badly depressed I don't eat, mildly depressed I eat too much, manic I tend to eat much less and move much more. When stable I sometimes eat too much and sometimes I diet. I'm chubby now and will probably remain as such. I'm sorry you struggle with weight Rasp. 130 is rather small for a typical American women whose had a child. (((Hugs)))

I tend to eat more when I'm depressed. I use food as a coping skill. I also am less active as I have less energy, so I gain weight when I'm depressed.
And when I'm up, I don't eat as much, so I tend to lose weight. That and I am more active during my hypomanic phase.

I'm the same way. Manic, I hardly eat anything at all, and depressed I eat too much and don't move. I seem to have avoided that this past year as I've gone through the death of my husband and lost over 80 lbs. in the 10 months since. I don't recommend such drastic measures as a way to lose weight, but I guess every cloud has its silver lining.

Typically, I gain weight when stable and lose weight in episodes. Except weirdly in the episode I'm in now, I've not lost my appetite or ability to sleep.

when up I always lose weight - end up around 112 - 115 lbs. when really down I tend to lose weight too, though not much, and when sorta down I tend to gain weight from comfort eating + giving up and not moving around a lot (end up around 127-130 lbs).
I am currently about 121 (getting here has been an effort and I'm still trying to lose a few more lbs). |
