Just wondering... How often do you get blood tests, if at all?

It's 12:16pm and I haven't eaten since 6pm last night. I wanted to get my blood tested earlier in the day, but it's usually packed until 3pm.

I seem to get blood tests once every 2-3 months!

do you get the blood tests for a certain medical condition or med?
I don't get them that much only when I feel like my iron may be going low. good to keep up with things!

i got some back in September to check prolactin and I just got some done a week ago to check prolactin and A1C for the endocrinologist.

I refuse to be on a med that requires frequent blood work because it's such a pain in my *** to get it that I put it off for weeks. If it's fasting I have to go early in the morning and I don't do well getting up early so I'd have to take off work, or go on Saturday, but then I have to take my son with me on Saturday...it's such a pain. Plus, I have small deep veins and they can NEVER find one on the first try. They usually stick me three or four times in multiple spots and end up going in my hand which hurts and bruises like hell.

So I just won't get blood work done. No depakote, lithium, or tegretol for me.

I've only ever had one blood test ordered by a pdoc. It was in February shortly after I started Tegretol. Good thing I had it done because the blood test indicated the level of Tegretol was toxic. I'd rather be on meds that don't require regular blood tests.

Once a month now. With clozaril you do weekly for 6 months, every other week for 6 months and then monthly while on it. Funny enough I nearly said yearly because I'm so used to those draws I guess I forgot about them except for the annual one/as needed ones from my family dr.

Every week at the moment and has been the last 7 weeks. The Lithium has finally hit the therapeutic range though and has for the last 2 weeks, so hoping the frequency of the tests can be dropped down soon.

Right now it's every three months, but it's more for diabetes than for psych reasons. Typically I get them every six months.
