I'm thinking of asking temp pdoc for zyprexa zydis but does asking for something by name sound like your playing Dr. or just advocating for yourself? I'm not sure it'll be approved by my insurance but it's worth a shot. If I'm willing to try it what the hell right?

I don't want to tell him things for fear I'll end up IP. When I'm not a danger to myself or others, I'm just a little off and my affect isn't matching my thoughts. It really bothers reg. pdoc when that happens. How do I put my thoughts in such a way as to not get put IP. I really need a med change because I can't become more "out there" when my husband leaves for his parents house for 10 days on the 19th.

I know all the full medical names of drugs, and I quote published research studies at my doc. I just got fed up with being treated like a child and being lied to so now they know that actually I do know enough that they need to do their job properly.
I don't think you sound like you're playing Dr, it's your body that's going to be taking the stuff so they can't criticise you for knowing the name of it.

I have to tell my pdoc what I want to take. I don't think it's bad to ask for a specific drug, as long as it's not something that can be abused.

It's fine to ask for a specific med. Just be prepared for him to ask you why you'd prefer that drug. I see it as self-advocacy. I hope it goes well for you.

My doctors have always listened when I've suggested a med and agreed with my logic on why it should be next in line to try. I think at this point they are just happy to hear I'm willing to try anything at all because I've had such raging side effects from so many meds. I think you are just advocating for yourself and you know your body, what you've tried and what you haven't, how you've reacted and so on more than the docs do. Even though it's all in my records my doctor often has to ask me what I've taken and what happened on the drugs as they have too much of a case load to memorize I think. We need to be our own advocate.

My doctor and I talk back and forth about medications and dosages. Sometimes I'll ask for something specific and sometimes he'll ask my opinion. We've been together along time. You need to be as honest as you can with your temp and or regular pdoc. Good luck and best wishes.

Most insurance on the pharmacy side has a list of meds on various price schedules, if suggesting a particular one makes you feel uncomfortable, could you just make a shortened list that shows which stabilizers and which APs are covered under your insurance?

definitely advocating. I have always been like i want this let's try this no I'm not doing this. it's your body!!!
granted I like having control when it comes to psych issues so it's good to listen to what they have to say too which I'm not always good at.
good to have a balance

You're not playing doctor by asking for a specific med. your doctor should take what you have to say into consideration, and in the end they're the one making the decisions. If you do your homework (I'd suggest reading most of the full PI) and think it may help, then have the discussion.

It would be a different discussion if you walked in and requested 5mg/day of Klonopin. But you're discussing APs, an entirely different beast.

Out of curiosity, why do you want the dissolving formulation?

why do you want the dissolving formulation? I have trouble swallowing pills. I chock them back up. So I avoid taking the pills and starts the cycle all over again.

UPDATE: He gave me the dissolvable ones and said he's not going to switch my meds around every month. I have to be on it months for the weight gain to level out. He put me on 15 mg to start. He may go up from there. He put me on 100 mg lamictal dissolvable with the idea to go up to ~200 mg. He said to keep a lot of fruits and vegetables around. If we get to the point that I can't take the weight gain I'll start swimming again, I guess. I just need something to work while my husband's away. He said that I'd have to go back to the clinic for the injection as insurance is more willing to work with clinics. He wants me on the one drug that requires weekly blood draws if this doesn't work.

Sounds like a great plan!
You did a great job advocating for yourself.

Rant: Now he ****ing tells me! My DH doesn't want me on the med because I do so horrible with weight gain and I might "do something", **** you. You had the chance to tell me for the past two weeks and you had a chance to go in with me. Sure let me slip further into fear. What did he expect the doctor to be like "Yeah you want to do X,Y,Z and think everyone hates you. Sure we'll leave everything as is."? I don't understand, he even said he's worried I'll get sick due to stress. WTH do you think I'm trying to prevent? I swear sometime I feel like he wants me sick.
