I couldn't leave my bed yesterday and now I'm pretty depressed. I'm thinking how much I failed, how much I regret and what's the point anymore.

Hi,
Have you ever tried sleep deprivation? I read it can help.
When I am in depression the only thing which help me is the knowledge that after 1-2 months it will over.

I'm sorry you are having such a tough time. Sounds like you might be ruminating which is not helpful and can deepen the depression. Do you think it's possible that your thinking is being colored by the filter of your depression? Please be gentle and compassionate with yourself as you heal. Beating yourself up won't help. I hope you feel better soon. You're worth it.

Hey boogie, saw you're having a tough time and wanted to chime in. Like someone else alluded to, there's a chance that too much sleep/time in bed is contributing to your depression.

I know how it is, I've had depressive episodes where for an entire month I could do nothing but stay in bed for 20 hours a day. At that point, the only thing that helped pull me out of it was a significant medication change. Within 3-4 days of that change, I was up and interacting with my family for 16 hours a day. Two weeks later I was able to return to work.

When is your next psychiatrist appointment? If it's more than a week out, I would suggest a phone consultation or urgent/emergency visit. If that's not possible, you might want to consider going to the ER and speaking with their doctor. They can decide if it's important enough to get you IP for a short while to do a med change.

Best of luck to you. Keep fighting it. There will be better days ahead.

Hey Boogie, sorry your struggling right now. I understand, I've been there. I also agree that you should put a call in to your p doc, see if a med change will help out. Hugs!!

Then a medical visit may not do much for you. This is where therapy may come in. Unless you're rapid cycling, which it doesn't sound like you are (you don't sound like you're headed for mania), then figuring out what changed and what led to your emotional state of feeling better could benefit you greatly. If it was some action you took or even just time passing, those are things that can be figured out and utilized to help you in the future.

I had a previous psychiatrist tell me that meds alone can only do so much, therapy alone can only do so much, but the best success in treating bipolar is via a combination of meds and therapy. That's the best evidence-based success that medical science has to offer today.

Good luck, boogie.

Are you a rapid cycle Boogie? You seem to either be or perhaps you have more than Bipolar going on? I've noticed you often have a bad time or negativity followed by a quick recovery. Please be sure to let your doctors know and rule out anything physical. Either way, I'm glad you are doing better and I hope it lasts.

I don't think it's rapid cycling. It isn't constant back and forth. I had a bunch of anxiety this morning too about going to see my mom then when I told her I wasn't going up it quickly went away and I felt better. Similar anxiety happened one morning before work. I woke up at 3 am and constantly was fearing and dreading to go to work. My shift started at 6 and I called out at 530. This feeling is more common in days where I plan to go to my Kung fu class, I feel instant relief when I don't go. This is also followed by bad case of regret.

Bioche mentioned opposite actions might help. Has anyone had any dbt experience with this?

So I had another "cycle". Felt crappy after work went home was in bed for bit thinking about the past and feeling down. Took an ambien and woke up today. Right now I'm feeling ecstatic and good. Smiling. What is up with this cycle? Is this bipolar?

--response if you cant get ut of bed but u cant sleep, perhaps you are in a mixed state. When i have the lethargic type of depression, i force myself to remember that doing nothing will makes me worse. I do household chores, clean out drawers, create projects. Get outside and exercise. Call a friend. Moving creates endorphins and going out distracts you. Hugs!

Good job. I can't even clean my bathroom, but I think in my case I'm just lazy. Well, plus, I'm growing my hair out. I keep getting it cut and that's no way to grow it out! Do you keep your hair shaved all the time?

Do the exact opposite of what you want to do ....

Stay in bed ? No get up make the bed and refuse to go back until bedtime.

Get off the couch, make it a point to stay a w a y .

Dont wanna clean ... do it anyway. Anyone can do ANYTHING for 15 mins, Set a timer. its amazing how much can be done. Try it.

Go outside go outside walk around the house or up and down the driveway or better down the street/block

Take Vit D and Fish oil

Before anyone jumps my asss about my advice .....

Get mad at BP and kick claw and fight to feel better.. Meds can only do so much, period !

Do you have a T? If not find one and work hard as hell. If T isnt hard then your not doing it right.

You can feel better for more than a day here and there.
