I'm new to this and was convinced by my therapist to come on here to vent and find other people who may relate, understand, or even give advice. I was first diagnosed with depression and anxiety when i first went for help. Now, a couple months later, I've beem diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and it made alot of sense then. I don't know which type yet and won't know until the 20th when i have my first psychiatry appt.

It was hard to accept at first, because it's one thing to joke about it but another thing to actually be diagnosed. I'm coming to true acceptance now, I feel that it's just me, it's always been me. But I'm feeling a bit alone... No one to really talk to about it.

I've tried the whole support system thing, just didn't go like i thought. My family is there for me and they listen but it never feels like enough. My friends, well some know, but i don't want them to feel like they are responsible for me or my unpredictable actions. So, i think I've been distant from them. My boyfriend, the one person i thought would understand, who i thought would be my biggest supporter of all, well he's not. I honestly don't think he's very interested in learning or understanding it. He's said both when diagnosed with depression/anxiety and now with bipolar disorder, 'There's Nothing wrong with you' and okay i accept that but that's just his excuse to justify being insensitive (at least what i believe).

I'm open with making new friends, when not depressed, i laugh and smile ALOT. So please feel free to reply, support, advise, hug, or just say hi.! Thanks in advance.!

Welcome to PC!

I was originally diagnosed with depression and anxiety as well. I'm now BP1 with anxiety and some other things. It took over twenty years to change my diagnosis.

If your boyfriend is insensitive to you that sounds like a big issue.

Welcome to the forums. The situation with your boyfriend isn't uncommon, nor is your reaction. You're going through a time when your world has been turned upside down and you want someone to relate to you - namely those closest to you. Your boyfriend has seen you through your ups and downs, and he has a picture in his head of what he considers the "normal you."

What's going on inside you is intensely personal. Nobody who hasn't experienced it firsthand can truly relate; not to the illness, and not to the ramifications of living with the stigma and the medications.

You're going to find kindred spirits here. We all know what you're going through emotionally, and the more you share the better we can understand what makes you and your situation unique.

Again, welcome. Feel free to share more and we'll do whatever we can to help you with whatever you're going through.

The others said everything well but I wanted to say hi and welcome. Also, I always suggest the website PsychEducation | Treating the Mood Spectrum when you are new to BP and learning about it. It's written by a psychiatrist who specializes in bipolar and has the entire contents of his book (plus some since his book was published a while ago) on it. It helped me so much when I was new to all this. It's also great for families and friends who are trying to understand.
