Is there an end?

I don't know if any of you remember, but I have been in partial hospitalization for a while now. Actually it has only been three weeks, but meanwhile I have watched many people get dismissed before me.
I guess I just want sympathy. The program is so boring, and I have to be so careful of what I share/say. My bipolar....one of the most displaying bipolar people my doctor has seen in a while he tells me....makes it hard to control unnecessary comments. Unnecessary comments reflect on my mental state.
Medication changes have been rough. I have really had a tough time with Vraylar. The doctor doesn't want to change medicines beyond his original call.
I might have to miss a very special college visit for one of my sons next week. He has an invitation to perform his music for a professor at UNC-Chapel Hill. The doctor said we would decide my ability to attend as the date got closer.
As of today, my areas that need work are Bipolar med regulation, anxiety, and sui.-de ideation. I think I am doing well, but that is not the case of the professionals.

Three weeks isn't very long a lot of people get dismissed cause of insurance not cause they're ready. You can only get better at your own rate not anyone else's.

I hope you feel better soon and get to see your son's performance. If you aren't ready to be released maybe you could go and come back. That's what I did for my grandmother's funeral. Best wishes.

I have seen the manuals of the IOP in this area and the info covered is quite impressive. Anyone could attend and leave having learned a lot. It's a combination of CBT, DBT and Mindfulness.

Maybe your IOP program is different.
It's truly a drag to be bored.
I hope something interesting comes up in your IOP.

Medications do not distinguish between the necessary and the unnecessary in the comment department, so "mental state" is not the entire issue there. Overall, it sounds to me like your doctor is expecting you to only make comments s/he happens to believe are "necessary" and I would not tolerate that. Learning when certain comments are appropriate and when it is best to hold them back can be quite a challenge, and in my own case that has nothing to do with any kind of mental illness. I could be quite wrong here, of course, but I believe you are being mis-treated and whether or not you attend the upcoming even is a decision for you to make, not some doctor.

To be perfectly honest, I would firmly tell my counselor/therapist/M.D. I am going to my son's performance. They can figure out how to make that work.

I'd only expect a problem from them if they could honestly say I am a danger to myself or others. If that is the case, I would expect IP instead of IOP.

It's really contingent upon how you feel about attending vs. not attending.

If you are well enough to attend, I'm sure you'd like to do so and will likely feel badly about yourself if you don't attend.

If you are not well enough, you'll need to find acceptance.

I think it should be your call.

Hope you can attend your son's performance. My daughter used to be in show choir, and I wouldn't miss those performances no matter how crappy I was feeling.

Also hope you feel better soon.

I agree completely! I have been to too many chorus, band, piano, and on and on to count. It defines me.

When I was in the hospital last, committed against my will, I could not believe the people they were letting out.....who were shaking so bad they couldn't make phone calls while keeping me inside when I was only getting worse in there instead of better. Others who seemed they were not a threat to themselves at all were seemingly living there while someone who looked like he was a complete wreck was being released made zero sense to me. I like to think the doctors know best. Your family knows you are there too and they won't forget about you. (((Hugs)))

It sounds like you are doing the best you can do at the moment. I know the waiting game is the most difficult part. I am kind of shocked they might not let you be there for your son. Anyway, just think there is an end, you will get through this.

Length of IP stays is usually governed by the insurance companies, less so by the doctors. If someone doesn't have insurance and isn't actively suicidal, they'll move them on quickly. Others who have good insurance can sometimes treat it like a resort.

I've been blessed with good insurance. The staff was excited when they saw the numbers. Sad. I know of people who need help, and that's more than this stay.
