Should I?

I know it takes a long time to find the right combo of meds, but I've been trying for 4 years and it's getting old. Every AP we try doesn't work.

The closest I came was with seroquel. The only thing is that it made me extra sleepy. I would take at least one nap a day. Which can be hard when I actually feel like leaving the house and having a life.

What I want an opinion on is if it's worth it? The extra sleepiness for seeing/hearing things less frequently, etc.

I'm currently on rexulti and it's not doing anything.

How long did you stay on the seroquel? Maybe the drowsiness effect would fade over time..

4 months. And maybe..

It took more than four years to find a decent combination for me. Hang in there. I don't remember exactly how long due to ECT. Sorry.

Which formulation of Seroquel did you try? Was it instant release or XR? If Seroquel helps you a lot, you can always try a different formulation to see if you feel less sedated. Some people feel less drowsy on the XR, while others feel less drowsy on the instant release. Just an idea

Seroquel is really sedating; at least I found it so. I currently take ziprasidone and trintellix and get really good results with that combination. But it does take time to figure out what works -- and sometimes what works changes on you.

I've been dealing with my bipolar diagnosis for 23 years and I want to tell you that it does get easier over time. The biggest thing that works is honesty with your psychiatrist so you can have the meds adjusted as often as is needful.

Thanks everyone. I was on XR. He never mentioned different versions. I'll ask about that.

Perhaps ask for a stimulant for daytime sleepiness? Modafinil works for me and it's very mild.

I was going to suggest a stimulant for the daytime as well. Seroquel was just too sedating for me and I couldn't work with it. I switched to ziprasidone and take it at night. I sleep deeply and restfully with no daytime drowsiness. Good luck working it out. Best wishes.

I find that Rexulti is doing a nice job- it doesn't have any side effects except paranoia at 4mg. (I'm at 3mg and the paranoia went away.) I'm still on Zyprexa though so once I'm FINALLY off Zyprexa (whenever that might be), we'll see what flying solo on Rexulti is like.

In my experience Seroquel is sedating.

I've been on psych meds for 25 years...some work for a while, then they have to be adjusted or changed. I know of very few people who find the 'right' meds and remain on that med for many years. It seems like most of us have to change meds fairly frequently, even seasonally.
