... to wean my own dammed self off lithium and zyprexa. They are both bad for my liver and zyprexa is bad for my blood sugar. I have prediabetes from these drugs and my Pdoc refuses to take me off them! In fact she's open-ended and vague about when I'll get to come off and start healing.

Would your pdoc be open to trying different meds to replace lithium and zyprexa?

Has your pdoc given you reasons why she won't take you off the lithium and zyprexa?

I've been on Rexulti since January to replace at least zyprexa.

We tried weaning me down but it was too fast and I had side effects so we went back up.

I don't know but sometimes I want to as like this week she made a derogatory remark about Medicaid knowing I'm on Medicaid.

I've noticed that you've been trying a loooong time to get off that Zyprexa. It doesn't sound like she's listening to you very well about your health concerns considering you're at the point where you want to taper off yourself.

I have to agree with miguel'smom on this one. If she's not been helping you lately, you're getting health problems that she's ignoring, and she's making derogatory remarks, then maybe she's not the right pdoc for you. I personally would not stick with someone like that. Your mental health but also general health is most important. It doesn't sound like she's taking that very seriously.

If it were me, I'd be at the point of looking for a new pdoc.

It is not helping to trade mental health problems for physical health problems. I strongly believe the goal is to find something that helps with the mental symptoms as much as possible without sacrificing physical health. At least that is my opinion.

Ouch zyprexa AND lithium two extremely potent drugs. If they are harming you physically they shoud consider an alterntive treatment package. I overdosed on zyprexa and asked for a new med and by a stroke of luck it worked and has done for eight years. But obviously please dont resort to an OD. Zyprexa isnt supposed to be used longterm, well no anti-psychotic is.
You need a change but i do not know how it works in the u.s. the system

I think I agree that maybe a new pdoc would be best. Your concerns need to be heard.

Many times, it's next to impossible to find a new doctor. There's a shortage of pdocs in many areas.

What happens if you assert yourself with your pdoc and tell her you are going off of Zyprexa and would like her help?

Do you have a GP you see? What if the GP called her to voice concern about your liver and pre-diabetes, etc? This might be a good strategy?

I hope there is a viable solution for you soon.

If I were you I'd go ahead and start the taper from Zyprexa, at least. That's something you and your doc tried before when you started the Rexulti. If you do it successfully it'll just be following the plan you made earlier in the year. If it doesn't work, you're right back where you started. Then again you don't really want your doc feeling you've gone rogue and decided to start changing things willy-nilly. Good luck whatever you decide.

I think the Lithium requires more thought and buy-in from your doc.
