Cheating

Anyone have issues being faithful as a result being bipolar or is it just me? Lots of destroyed relationships in my wake and seems like it doesn't get better. Is this a bipolar thing or something else?

Does this episodes happen when you are manic?

I have this when Im manic. My self confidence is through the roof and i do whatever i want with no regards to anyone else. I have never been physical but I have flirted with other women. It's destroyed my marriage and I am currently going through a separation with my wife who intends to divorce me, I've just started taking meds and I got a diagnosis 2 months ago but there's to much damage to fix the damage I've done.

One time when I was way manic I had an issue with infidelity. It almost destroyed my marriage. My wife was able to forgive me, but every once in a while it comes up.

No matter what your brain tells you, don't act on it. The consequences are irreversible.

Never fails to amaze me the power of the symptom of hyper sexuality and what the brain/body thinks it wants and wants right now. Can only hope to get through an episode with no damage done.

Been there, almost done that! I got myself into the craziest situations. I'd write a book, but no one would believe it!

I've unknowingly put myself in situations like that but never followed through.

That's rough. I've been through that. It does get better with time. Hang in there.

It can happen with bipolar. I'm afraid it is one aspect that no one outside those diagnosed with bipolar will ever truly understand. My wife has said many times it is difficult to be with me and my bipolar. If she were to to uncover infidelity my marriage would be over and I can pretty much kiss my kids goodbye.

I have lost 3 marriages because of this, I'm currently separated after 5 years faithful my actions from before and the way i treated her has killed my 3rd marriage.. Now i'm dealing with suicidal thoughts because she left me for the last time and i'm alone... I have cheated on every relationship i have been into!! I finally stopped cheating by just not being in the wrong places and made her my life... no im alone with nobody

Sorry you're dealing with this. I have dealt with it in the past and almost about lost my marriage. The whole situation was pretty crazy and pretty bad. Looking back now, I still can't believe the things that I believed during the episode. Be careful and try not to give in.

Hey Richard, Hang in there. Sometimes there is beauty in sadness. Try going for a walk and looking at the trees moving in the wind, flowers, and birds. One of the major benefits of being bipolar is our heightened senses. It truly is a beautiful world no matter what we are going through.

I am bipolar 2 and as soon as I start getting hypomanic they hypersexuality starts up. It did almost cost me my marriage. Now that I have more awareness about this it has helped me stay out of trouble... knock on wood.

For me it is the chase. Never followed through, but it is still wrong to talk to anyone a way that I would not if my husband was there. I have done ok resisting it, but it is very difficult.

the thing with the hypersexuality, unless you experience it there's no way to understand its all consuming intensity. Last episode was Jan-mar. I miss the good parts of it.

Absolutely no. I go through times of high libido too and it is quite different from my hypersexuality. Hypersexuality is compulsive. It is all consuming. It affects my life negatively. It makes me do or want to do things I normally would not.

It is so difficult to explain the difference.

I agree, high libido is not the same. With high libido I do not do or think of things I would be opposed to. With BP hypersexuality its like the barriers are down and anything goes. I've even thought, "how fun it would be to be an escort or a stripper in Vegas". Then when it all passes its like WTF!? (BTW I haven't seen that one through)
