Long story short I had to stop taking my Wellbutrin because it was making me somewhat psychotic and giving me paranoid delusions. That being said I really love the way that it pulls me out of a depression, especially when they have lasted for months and nothing else makes them go away. Because of this I am hoping to find a natural way to enhance or boost my dopamine production. So far I have researched a little about tyrosine and I am wondering if anyone on here has tried it or anything similar to what I am trying to figure out.

Hey Trey!
As far as 'naturally" boosting dopamine in an effort to improve how you feel using tyrosine: My doc helped me get around a system using tyrosine / protein shakes with running on a weekly basis. The great part is that if you wanna start off light, Tyrosine is used in most protein supplements already. Another piece of the puzzle for me is to listen to music. Music makes us happy cause it increases our dopamine levels too. So when you’re feeling down make a shake, go for a run and jam out to some music. I usually do this even more so before a big day or before important things need to be done. |

I have read about this but there is a lot of info out there, so I'm not sure how reliable it is. I red several studies about fish oil capsules with higher EPA than DHA ratio. I take Nordic Naturals EPA Xtra, also daily sunlight, isometric exercise to get your heart rate up for a certain amount of time- I can't recall the heart rate number, green tea, and I've been curious about turmeric and noni juice but I haven't tried that is there anything that you've read or come across?

Have you ever considered an MAOI? Not natural but really, really effective. Emsam is a patch so you avoid some of the food issues (on the low dose you don't have any restrictions) and it works really well. I've been on it for 8 years and while I do have to lower my dose when manic and sometimes up it when depressed it is easy to manage and is the only AD that worked for me without causing problems.

My pdoc just put me on NAC to protect my liver but also because it has an ad effect. He said don't take over one a day or I could go too high. He's always recommended fish oil but he clarified yesterday that the EPA has to be 1,000 mg and he showed me a product from GNC that fits the bill. Best wishes.

Exercise, meditation, healthy sex -- all of which can help -- meditation takes practice as does exercise, and i guess so does sex, depending the person.
![]() Not sure that sex is a sustainable method of increasing dopamine though....*shrug* |

I take Tyrosine, glutamine, DLPA, and Tryptophan. Since I've been on them I haven't been experiencing my "normal" low-grade depressions. Not saying it's a cure-all, but it's done well for me.

I have been on latuda for almost 4 years now, and once we figured out the dose it has done wonders keeping my moods from swinging much either way. I came to realize that my baseline can sometimes be low grade depression and so the wellbutrin gave me mental and physical energy that I just didn't have before and pulled me out of depression instantly. I don't normally have much anxiety, but while on wellbutrin it was causing it to skyrocket to the point where it was a constant daily thing. Like any med, i want all the good and none of the bad.

Thanks for this, I'll look into the DLPA and tryptophan more since I know less about them than the other two.
