Has anyone heard of this? Met with my pdoc and she recommended this. This is a test which would tell you what meds fit best? If this was around why didn't she do it when I first walked in the office?!? Anyone have experience with this?

Its very expensive and I think many insurance companies won't cover unless you've tried a few meds unsuccessfully before hand.

That's pretty cool though that they have something like that.

Not too expensive. Doc said 300 but can get it for me at 150 with proof of income.

I would love to get that done $300 is much better than going through the medicine merry-go-round.

It's not 100% reliable. That's the reason some docs are not too excited about it. My pdoc and I did our research on it and decided to not use it.

My pdoc had a company offering free genetic testing to see how your body breaks down medications. It was over my head but I did it anyway. He mentioned it again today. I was telling him I was getting my lap band out and he said have them call me so you get the right pain meds because the way Wellbutrin and Prozac block a certain route in your liver, some painkillers won't work. Again over my head but ok.

I have had it. Medicaid covered it. It's been mostly reliable for me on he meds to avoid.

I had it done and it is a wonderful help for me. Was on Wellbutrin and was getting worse. The testing revealed that was one of the worst ones for me to take. Have since switched to Pristiq and am much better.

I had the GeneSight test done for free under Medicare. Didn't tell me anything new (I was unable to metabolize most ADs and some APs). It helped my last IP pdoc determine what to put me on next. So far so good.

My pdoc had mentioned at my last appointment about me possibly getting one of these done. I'm pretty certain it'll be entirely out-of-pocket cost for me. Might be able to after first of the year. Just wonder if it's worth it. I've been having a lot of physical side effects of meds last couple years.

I did mine through GeneSight. They claim that you will pay no more than $330 regardless of what insurance pays. It had me really nervous but I just got the bill and it was $330. The wrote off the other $279 that my insurance didn't cover. The test runs close to $7000.

My husband's doctor mentioned this. Did they do a cheek swab or did they need a blood sample?

It told me I only metabolize half the folic acid I intake so I have to take a supplement daily.
