I just had two drinks tonight for the first time in like 10-12 years. Not sure why I even did it. I guess I was somewhat responsible though because I skipped my klonopin so that I didn't mix the two. But was it an even trade? I probably would have done better today with the klonopin than the alcohol. Why do we do these little self sabotages? Even though we know better as we are doing them.

That's a very big question and one that I surely cannot answer. I do kinda think self sabotage is a part of human nature at times and not necessarily exclusive to MI.
The human condition is a myriad of complexities, too many without understanding or explanation.

I'm great at self sabotaging. I do it a lot. I don't have an answer as to why unfortunately.

I have no answer to that but I'm pretty bad at self sabotaging as well.

Many people with BP tend to excel at self-sabotage, particularly during mania. What's important if/when it happens is what we do about it.

Alcohol use is a slippery slope, at least for me. 1 is good, 2 is better.....until we get to the point where 8 is not enough. I get euphoria and happiness, and love to be plastered. Then I wake up and want to do it again, which eventually leads to all sorts of problems.

If you're not a drinker, I'd suggest you just leave it out of your life. There's always the possibility of it interfering with your BP meds.

That sounds just like me and thats why I choose not to drink.

I've never thought of my drinking as self-sabotage, just a way out. Something to ponder...

I have the same issue with food, except I can't just not eat. It's making my blood sugar do loops.

I think inside there's a rebellious three-year old who wants to smash the dishes and eat all the candy. It's like why do I have to follow all these rules? I usually can hold her down but sometimes she slips through.
