Grandiose beliefs

What was your most recent one?

I haven't had grandiose thoughts in a loooong time but I clearly remember when I was manic last (3+ years ago) that I believed I could write essays that would heal the world of all suffering. And that I had magical powers that could take away the mental suffering of people I met.

My essays were gibberish btw.

I had become a professional gambler

That I was really an angel sent back to this earth to help people passing over on their trip to heaven.

Okay, I have never told anyone that ever in my life. Not even my P.doc...

...feeling a little embarrassed about it, but...no one is here to judge right?

That I had invented human hands and was going to make a fortune off my brilliant idea.

I applaud you for stating this. Even though on the internet we can be who ever we want, many people would never have the fortitude to state this with the realization that once it's on the net it will never be gone. As someone who believes in the existence of other worldly beings that walk shoulder to shoulder with humans i say thank you for what you are doing for those who need your kind.

Now... me and my Grandiose beliefs.... i don't think i really have ever had one because i always have believed i am lesser than everyone else and my only true purpose is to guide those who through out the eons have needed a gentle nudge to get back on their path. When the last being is on their path and there are no more then i will be allowed to sleep and join my people.... ok i believe i'm not human but from somewhere else to help human's achieve their greatness. those who have actually listened to my theories all think i'm just mental.

That I could save the world with my positive energy.

A couple of weeks ago when I was feeling hypomanicky, I was experiencing sort of a sexual themed grandiosity...the power to seduce everyone! Kind of embarrassing. That is out of character for me, and I feel very opposite at the moment after falling into a state of depression.

I've often wondered about grandiose thoughts and what can constitute them. I know having the thought that one can control the weather with their mind or perform some other realistically improbable and more so impossible feat is a grandiose thought.

But, to me it seems that grandiosity can be decided subjectively. I was even talking to my psychiatrist about it and I asked him if a pursuit I was considering was grandiose. He said he couldn't make that determination. I didn't ask him to elucidate. But, what I was considering to pursue was a particular graduate school and career challenge. It was a demanding pursuit, no doubt. But, for some people that would be a grandiose thought and for others it would be realistic, right? Like if you saw a body builder go up and say I'm going to lift this massive amount of weight; it may look entirely plausible. But, if someone with a noticeable deficit of muscle mass said they were going to life the same amount of weight, considering them, it would be a grandiose thought, right?
