My T just told me of a crisis text line 741741. Has anyone used this? I have used online chats before and they sent the cops to my house so I am a little skeptical about this text line.

Any pros or cons?

I've used this text line several times. It works for me. I'm pretty sure if you have intention and a plan, they'll send somebody to your house so I'm just careful how I word things. Best wishes.

When the online chat people sent the cops, how suicidal were you? Were they wrong to call the cops?

I've used it before and it was very helpful. Like the previous poster stated just be careful of wording if you don't want anyone to be sent to your house. On the other hand if there is intention or a plan then you need someone to be sent. I use it when the thoughts become too much and I can't go to sleep because of it.

I've used it and it's helpful. I too used a chat room and cops were called but this line doesn't freak as fast.

I had a plan but not intent. So they didn't need to call the cops.

I would be worried to use a line like this only to have police arrive at my home

I am a crisis counselor for Crisis Text Line. I can tell you that the crisis counselors will not send anyone to your house unless they feel it is in your best interest - if you are a danger to yourself or others. In the year that I have worked at CTL, 9/10 times, it is my understanding that we send paramedics to the location (usually when we feel the person is about to take their life). In terms of wording - you have to meet four specific criteria in order to be deemed unsafe to yourself or others.

It is a great resource and the counselors are highly trained volunteers. They will spend anywhere from 15 minutes to hours with you, depending on your needs. I have personally spent up to 4 hours with one texter. We try to make each conversation as individualized as possible.

I wasn't a big fan of the text line. Tried it a few times today and really wasn't impressed.
