Today was the last straw. I am already on the edge and my boss had to push me over the tipping point. I have no idea how we will survive if I am not working. Not working may even make me crazier. I don't know but I am tired of being treated like a child and have every little thing nitpicked. I am already suicidal as it is I don't need this pushing me farther.

Is your boss nitpicking your work in specific or nitpicking other people's work too? If your boss is nitpicking your work and no one else's, can you talk to your boss about it? If that fails, try your boss' supervisor.

Some people are just micromanagers, though. Quite annoying. BUT I would start looking into finding a lower stress job elsewhere before you outright quit.

FWIW, i used to work in a research lab and my professor would always nitpick my work. She did it not to be irritating, but because she felt it could help me improve my research skills, and it did. So I guess you never know the reason for nitpicking. It could be a misunderstanding or it could be your boss being a total asshole, which is why I think it's important to talk it out ASAP.

Hang on...I know how you feel: trapped!

I try to find other work before I quit....no one hires a quitter. People don't quit the job...they quit there boss.
Thanks for this!

Are they trying to drive you out? That is what pushed me over the edge to quit...the nitpicking and it was obvious that they were trying to get to me...I put up with it for the last 7 years of the 19 years I was there...and then I quit....and ITS WORSE.

see if you can find another job before leaving.

Remember the grass is not always greener on the other side. If you do bail out and take a new job make sure its one you really want.

Is this something that has gotten worse while you've been feeling so bad? Or is that even a remote possiblity? Because if it is I think you may regret quitting when you feel better.

Are you sure you don't want to just go IP? I understand promising yourself you wouldn't do that this year but sometimes it is beyond our control. A person with any number of illnesses might want to do that with the physical hospital but wind up in the hospital anyway. It's not something we have a lot of control over. If stubbornness alone could keep us well this board wouldn't have so many posts.

The first time I went IP I knew I was going in for a med change but it was expected to be in 2 weeks after I tapered off my regular AD before going on an MAOI. I found myself spending work thinking how much I hated it and with one patient how I hated working with her so much I just wanted to die and that was how we knew I needed to get in there faster. I came out and no longer hated work or any particular patients, even those that tried my usually very long patience.

I think you need to do what you can to feel better faster. It sucks but that probably means IP if you can't start IOP for 2 weeks. I don't want you to feel even worse and that's the advice I would give myself.

It's hard to work at a job in a toxic environment. It can aggravate your condition further. You could start looking for another job soon or wait until you are more stable before making a decision on this one. Best wishes.
