Hello, I'm Michelle.
I hope this is ok to post here. I was diagnosed in 2009 with Generalised Anxiety Disorder. I initially went to see the psychiatrist because I personally believed I had Bipolar but he said no.

Up until 6 months ago I was absolutely fine, on medication for my GAD life was good (I suppose)

6 months ago everything changed, I have seen the psychiatrist (private) quite a few times and he's said it's Severe Generalised Anxiety Disorder and I was pushed all different medications because I also had insomnia. I was even admitted to a psychiatric hospital for 7 days. I have also had intervention from the crisis team due to overwhelming suicidal thoughts

This is where my post is going (if your still with me)!

Basically the Bipolar question in my head has always been there. I can go from ecstatic to really low in the blink of an eye.

My depressive moods in the last few months have been utterly awful! It takes about 2 days to shift them and I'm ashamed to say but when I am in a depressive mood I hate everyone around me. It's like I'm a totally different person. We were driving in central London last Tuesday and I just got the urge to get out of the van and disappear into the crowds.

On the flip side though, when I'm on a high I'm on a high! I get very excited, can't stop talking, I'm passionate about everything and I feel on top of the world.

I was saying to my mum only Wednesday that there just doesn't seem to be anyone out there to help me and I feel like I've given up the fight. I have my husband and my cats but I don't really have anything else (I'm not suicidal)

I have just twisted my husbands arm to book next Monday off work so he can come with me to the GP and talk things through because quite honestly I can't go on like this much more. My brain is just in a constant fog and I've had enough!!

Have you considered asking about Borderline Persobality Disorder?

It's very rare for someone with bipolar disorder to cycle that rapidly, but people who appear to cycle that rapidly may have Borderline instead. The two disorders are similar in some ways.

I obviously don't know what you have since I'm not a doctor, but Borderline is worth looking into

Best of luck!

Oh no sorry, what I mean is my GAD had been fine under medication from 2009 to 6 months ago.

I have always bought up the subject of Bipolar.
I'm wondering.....for the last 4 years up until 3 months ago I was on 20mg of Olanzapine. My psychiatrist found this out and stopped it straightaway as I am also type 2 diabetic and Olanzapine increases blood sugar levels and also increases appetite.

I have always had problems with switching from happy to low at a moments notice or the low lasting a much longer time. It has caused lots of grief between my parents and me and my husband and me.

Hello. Welcome to PC. I'm glad you are going to your GP to get re-evaluated. You may end up having to go to another psychiatrist. Good luck getting things straightened out. I hope you feel better soon. Best wishes.

Hi Bluebicyle,
I have just looked up on the dreaded online GP (Google)
It is definitely not BPD. I don't think I recognise half of the main symptoms on NHS

Thanks though

Olanzapine is not normally prescribed for GAD, especially such a huge dose (20 mg). Are you sure you do not have bipolar and/or a psychotic disorder in your chart? What did the DR who prescribed Olanzapine say about the reasons for your taking it?

Hello Sad Mermaid,
I was put on Olanzapine because of having OCD. Our GP's are crap to be honest! The psychiatrist kept saying to me he didn't understand why I was still on it because of the diabetes.

I have always said since 2009 to the psychiatrist/GP about Bipolar but nobody wants to listen to me. The moods have got a LOT worse since leaving hospital which is when I was taken off of Olanzapine. It wasn't even gradual I took it one day then the next I wasn't. The moods have always been there (one day ecstatic then boom low moods for like a few days)!

I just don't know who's going to listen to me.
