From what I've read about bipolar disorder you are considered to have rapid cycling if you have four or more episodes in a one year period. I have episodes that last as little as 40 minutes long - I would suspect that my medications are effecting things except for the fact that I remember having a mixed episodes three hours long before I was on any medication.

Have any of you had similar experiences? Is ultra-rapid cycling a thing or do I have some other, related disorder?

Sounds more like a personality thing

Maybe I should have added that my episodes started out 3-4 weeks long about a year ago and have gotten progressively shorter since then.

A lot of health and other mental health conditions can minic bipolar. For example, thyroid issues can cause mood swings, and Borderline Personality Disorder has very similar symptoms. So it's really hard to say one way or another.

I think you should definitely bring this up to your doctor or psychiatrist (if you have one). Or you can even talk it out with a therapist. I started with a therapist first and it helped a lot.

But obviously we can't diagnose you.

Sorry you're struggling though. I hope you get the help you need and deserve

Talk to your doctor about this. Personally my episodes last for weeks or months; changing by the hours sounds awful.

I agree you should talk to your pdoc or tdoc. I suspect something is going on beside ultra rapid cycling. I hope you get the appropriate help and feel better soon.
