So my former t and friend say I deteriorate quickly into psychosis. It's true. Apparently I can be fine and within 48 hours I am gone. It takes a bit of antipsychotic meds to get me back and i never remember much. A lot of dissociating happens. I always end up ip because it's only happened a few times now and my t would suggest I go.

How quickly does psychosis grab hold of you? Do you always end up Ip? How does your t/pdoc address It?

The intensity of mine seem to build and build and build. They "grow" and morph according to my experiences and environment. I *always* have thoughts that would not be considered normal that I must battle ......in my defense it's not Psychosis, it's PTSD from the traumas I've experienced......those weird thoughts will start to morph and shift and get bigger until they are all consuming and I can think of nothing else. My mind spins and races with them......so I always have thoughts, it just how much I care about them that matters. And they can be constant where it's nothing but them, or fade in and out with intensity and I have even a smidge of insight into what is happening but then all the "proof" will start adding up again.

My psychosis started as hypomania then led to a full manic psychotic break. This happened within days. Luckily I was IP at the time and could be contained and medicated but it was terrifying in hindsight. I hardly recall any of it and only found out about most of it through details loved ones and clinicians gave me.

My last episode happened is seriously a few hours. I was fine and then I watched something triggering on t.v. and I was in full blown psychosis. It lasted 2 weeks. My pdoc put me on emergency prn's and let me ride it out at home.

My journal says about 5 days from when I started to feel up in a not so gentle way, but I'd already seen my pdoc for intake and the next step up in titration of the depakote took the muscle out of it. And so no more magical, disappearing cats. Abilify later killed it all off, and may it stay gone for many years to come.

I do still get a little breakthrough on the paranoia side.... meh. I can survive that I think.

I was just curious how fast it takes for you to lose it. My poor friend-I love her so much-always tries to warn me but it does no good because by then I'm lost. Within a week on a strong dose of haldol I am back to me or I get somewhat depressed but the psychosis leaves.

My psyd is working with me to keep out of the hospital. I'm supposed to tell him and my pdoc if symptoms return and I guess we will work it out at home with meds. My pdoc usually ups my haldol when stuff starts but my former t would get concerned and say I needed a higher level of care.

How does your pdoc/t handle it when you're gone?

I think it may be your borderline. I have never had this happen. I don't know. I can be manic for a while before taking an anti-psychotic. I don't take anti-psychotic except when manic.

Oh and I have never had to go ip.

Yes. I have worked to recognize my warning signs I have worked on this in therapy. My big ones are stress, overexcitement about an upcoming event, travel, lack of sleep etc.

So when I start to feel myself going up, I go see my psychiatrist. But I have had mania occur on vacation, which is common for me, so I take PRN antipsychotics with me.

For me it builds up over the course of weeks until my insight is totally gone. The fastest I've developed full on psychosis is 2-3 days. Usually I do need hospital when this happens.

Taking good meds on a regular, every day basis I haven't had a psychotic break in a couple of years.
