Did anybody see the new ABC series "A Million Little Things"? In it, a seemingly-happy man commits suicide. His three close friends are all rocked by it and decide to take charge of their lives. At the end the cast appeared and made a plea regarding suicide, saying depression is serious and to call a crisis line if you're considering suicide.

I'm wowed. I'm pleased that depression and suicide are making it into the public discourse enough to make it into prime time television. It wasn't really a typical suicide tho, in that it didn't show a long, slow slide into depression. Maybe future eps will reveal his private struggle.

The second ep is tomorrow. I'll be tuning in.

Never seen it before, but it sounds interesting. I don't have TV or Netflix anymore, and I don't have Hulu. Maybe it'll ultimately come on Amazon Prime? I have that. But Hulu I think is owned by ABC, so maybe not.

Excuse my ignorance, but it would be nice if the show ultimately highlights different "causes" of suicide. For example, people with BP/MDD who seemingly randomly get depressed vs people who have situational depression because of so many terrible things going on in their life. Also, drug addicts. Just different ways that lead to depression, I guess. You know, follow 3 different lives.

There was an article about the show in today's newspaper.
It's getting some recognition.

hopefully the show will reach a channel in the UK, soon

if it's HBO, I won't have to wait long.. their's a channel over here that would probably go off air if not for HBO content

The episode last night was good, but if you watch this show and especially if you are suicidal, I think it could be very triggering as well.

So it's a good thing/bad thing for me so far.

I was going to ask whether it might be triggering. When 13 Reasons Why came out my best friend messaged me to say dont watch it. I'm hesitant about anything involving suicide.

I think this show is interesting, as it is showing men struggling with stress, depression, suicidal feelings, etc. Men often keep to themselves and hesitate to share their feelings when overwhelmed. Men are especially reticent to share about feelings about depression with other men.

One male character has taken his life and this surprises his friends/family.
Another male character is struggling with his own depression.
One male character is struggling with breast cancer.
Another is struggling with his sobriety.

I think this might be a very important show. I hope it opens up more dialogue between its viewers. I hope it raises awareness in society in general.

Thanks again for alerting us to this series, whatever2013.
