Does anyone know if you're allowed to explain things after the physical exam? Because there wasn't enough room on the questionnaire to list all my problems, and I was hoping that the doctor today would listen to everything I had to say but he literally told me he wasn't interested and just wanted to see if I could physically move enough.
So basically, the entire reasons why I'm applying (tourettes, bipolar, SID, PTSD) were all completely ignored, unless he took note of my Tourette's. Ugh, this is basically a losing game now.

Disability applies to mental illnesses just as much as physical problems. This "doctor" is required to listen to ALL you say and answer ALL your questions. It's called a doctor-patient relationship.
Is he a GP or PCP? Perhaps he isn't familiar enough with MI...and the law! Can you get a second opinion or a referral to a psychiatrist who knows what he's doing? |

WOW!!
![]() I see you live in the USA so you have more freedom of choice than those who have to live with socialized medicine. I suggest you find another doctor. It's OK to interview a doctor. Bring a list of your issues that were not listened to and tell your potential new doctor "these are my concerns and I want to check them out." If they do not respond in a positive manner, leave and find a doctor who will listen to you ![]()

If this was a doctor you were sent to for a disability screening determining how much you can do physicality may be all he was screening you for.

Did you apply for disability under a physical or mental diagnosis? I'm sorry this happened to you. The whole process is frustrating. My examiner was cold as ice with the personality of a turnip. Can you follow up with somebody who may be doing your review and see if you can add an addendum of your problems or have it recorded to put in the file? Sending big hugs.

Unless he's a psychiatrist, he's probably not qualified to do a mental health disability exam.

Thanks for all the responses, I applied for disability under both mental health and physical disability reasons, but my physical disability he didn't care to listen about either. He asked how it impacts my daily life, I gave him some examples and then he stopped me and said he was no longer interested and wanted to see my movement range despite the fact that my Tourette's was literally going nuts.
He was a GP that I was sent to for a disability screening, so it's entirely possible that he's not qualified to listen to my other reasons! Thank you for pointing that out, Nammu and RedDawn. Will I be allowed to have a mental health disability exam as well? And Jennifer 1967, I'm not sure of how I'd go about adding an addendum or having it recorded because I'm not aware of who is doing my review.
