I went to a community mental health clinic and am on wait to see my old pdoc in 2 months. The psych nurse practitioner saw from 2 years ago that i abused modafinil (it was a manic psychotic episode.) I started getting psychotic on modafinil and feeling like God was in the room with me and talking to me so God told me to keep taking modafinil. I was hospitilized and they claimes substance abuse which i guess is partially true, though mostly a lie. Well the nurse looked back and saw sunstance abuse and wont refill my ativan or valium. She just told me to go inpatient. This feels like the end of the world. I am cutting my ativans in quarters and valiums in half. I dont want to go inpatient. I complained about it all day on the phone and "the board" will re-evaluate it. I called the psych hospital closest to me and they said i wpuld have to go to one an hour away to get treatment as their beds are full. I cant come off benzos quickly like they do in the hospitals. I have prolonged withdrawal symptoms. "The board" will get back to me next week. This is hell.

So sorry that this is happening to you. That nurse should have started tapering you off if she won't give you anymore. It's outrageous. I hope you find somebody who can resolve this quickly. Thinking of you.

That sounds like a horrible position to be in! Benzo withdraw is hell. I hope you get this figured out before you run out.

What was done to you is very wrong. My suggestion is that you go to your local ER.

Is her treatment of you of a scale worth reporting to whatever board would oversee her licensing? It's probably not in the scope of malpractice, but she's effectively sending you into withdrawals and washing her hands of the consequences. It might be something the county health board would be interested in hearing about.

Benzo withdrawal can actually be fatal.

Report her.
Thanks for this!

Can you call your old pdoc and see if you can get in sooner? Explain what happened and how dangerous it is.

If the pdoc can't fit you in sooner, perhaps your GP can prescribe the benzo temporarily until you see pdoc.

This nurse ... that was inappropriate and unsafe IMO. Is there a pdoc at the center who acts as a supervisor? Perhaps they can give you your rx benzos. She's in the wrong! "The board" needs to help you!

How long have you been taking the benzo?

Also, I have bipolar 1, too. Major episodes happen all bf with doing things like overtaking meds. I absolutely do think she should have pulled your benzo rx. I am thinking of you.

Making someone going go cold turkey from a benzo should be a criminal offense !!!!
That nurse is grossly negligent and should not even be practicing !!! Talk to her supervisor if you can.

Please try to get help from you GP or even go to the ER. They are well aware of the dangers of sudden withdrawal from benzos.

Going through a sudden withdrawal is pretty bad, but it can be done. You just shouldn't have to do it the hard way. That really chaps my grits, dammit!

That's the trouble with benzos. You can't get them when you REALLY need 'em. Hasn't this nurse practitioner ever seen a benzo patient in withdrawals???
