Running out of options. No trazadone, seroquel, ambien, lunesta, restoril, remeron. I think all that is left are the typical antipsychotics.

low dose thorazine was once used as a sleeping pill. i don't like the idea of it, but low doses of thorazine supposedly have a low TD risk. hydroxyzine helps a lot of people, and the doses for hydroxyzine vary wildly...i knew someone who was given 200mgs as a night time dose, and it seemed to help.

gabapentin? now and then doctors still use barbiturates. i had an acquaintance who was given a prescription for phenobarbital for a little while. not an ideal solution, but it did help.

sorry this is happening.
Thanks for this!

My doctor mentioned thorazine. hydroxozine doesn't work. and Gabapentin just helps a little with anxiety. I am getting worried I am going to have to take thorazine it scares me.

Best sleep I ever got was with saphris, but it made me kind of dull.

There are options, High doses of both Valerian Root and Melatonin together worked for me. There is always Nyquil for emergencies, the one with alchohol as one of the ingredients. But I would not recommend this for use on a regular basis. There is always a quicker acting benzo like lorazepam. The idea of combining sleep aids I think is worth pursuing.

Melatonin works for me to an extent, it allows me to sleep for periods, still gets broken up but I wouldn't want anything stronger regularly - although on occasion something to knock me out just to catch up might be nice (but GP won't prescribe now as he thinks I'm a suicide risk).

Melatonin is one of those substances that often works best in small doses, I just use 1mg and have another sub lingual 2 mg when needed.

Rozeram? I think it's still made. It's a sleeping pill. I was allergic to it so can't say if it worked or not. There's also Sonata, another sleeping pill. I tried that one years ago and liked it but my insurance said NO so I only got the samples.

How about triclycic ADs? Elavil, imipramine both made me sleepy. Doxepin is supposed to be good for sleep. There are others but those are the ones I remember helping with sleep.

Or the ant-convulsants can be sedating. Depakote is, trileptal completely kicked my butt and I'm very hard to sedate, others made me sleepy too but I don't remember this second what they are.

I hope you find something that works. Clozapine finally works for me after fighting my whole life. At least it works about 85-90% of the time which is not bad. i know how frustrating it is.

IMO The idea of tricylcics is a good one. I forgot about that since it has been a long time since I last took one.

Doxipin ... That with Tenex and Melatonin is the first combo in years that seems to work for me. I failed on everything else .

If your pdoc is concerned about your being suicidal he can always order just a few pills to at least attempt to allow sleep...

Suicidal and no sleep is asking for a disaster.

I hope you find some help.

Only 25 mg of seroquel knocks me flat. Have you tried a low dose? I do poorly on higher dosage. Just a thought

I have been from 25mg to 600mg of seroquel. It gave me diabetes and almost gave me a heart attack. Not an option.

My sister in law takes Thorazine every night. It's the only thing that helps her sleep. No TD, but not sure of other side effects. She doesn't work so she doesn't have to worry about being overly sedated. I think she wakes up around 4-5am but then goes back to sleep from 8-10ish usually.

I take Xanax and something called Rozerem. It won't keep you asleep, but it helps you go to sleep if you have 100 voices in your head keeping you awake with something like anxiety. I had tried everything, this helps more then anything else, I usually fall asleep in about 20 min, used to take me hours. Also they are non narcotic, you wake up and are awake, not all groggy. Might be worth a try.

I use a combination of Gabapentin and Klonopin, it helped me to sleep. It's not prescribed for that but it works very well. Good luck... hope you find something soon!

I see pdoc on Monday. I haven't slept more than 3 hours a night in a week and I am only slightly hypo. I am gonna need a heavy hitter so I think I am gonna go with the thorazine.
