The title says it. It's like I'm not touching anything in my hands. Nothing feels like "things." Food had no taste. I'm doing things but it's not really happening. This happens sometime for days. Mildly dizzy. Energy levels just aren't there.

I kind of understand what you are going through.
I sometimes feel like everything around me isn't real. I have tried to explain this feeling to my therapist and she says she understands but I don't know if anyone can really understand it, same with mental illness in general I suppose. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Are you on any meds? If so could that be the cause? Have you talked to a doctor about this? I have miagraine and when one is coming on I feel all kinds of strange unreal feelings, and food has no taste or tastes really wierd.

Food has been tasting off and even bad for months, like orange juice and toothpaste. I mostly eat a granola bar I like because it always tastes good. I cook for others but eat the bars instead. Same meds all this year. I have talked to docs about it and they just tell me to sleep better. I got 9 hours last night, but I've been sleeping on the floor since August. If I sleep on that couch again, I'll have to burn it after because I've got a year on it already. My vision is a little blurry like this too, but that just happens sometimes anyway. Did the normal vitals stuff a bit ago, pulse ox, temp, BP. All fine. Tingling in my feet and hands some too but that could be from my usual neck problems. I'm in very good physical health for someone my age. I exercise most days, sometimes twice. I'm touching things and just not feeling them against me, not my legs or arms or anything. I scratched my stomach and that was kind of numb. Accidentally spilled water for hot tea on my hand and didn't feel like it was hot, but left a small blister where it got me. I'm craving vinegar or pickles but the bread n butter ones here are gross

Have you tried a neurologist. I get tingling in my hands and arms from a neck injury, but not my feet. Perhaps this a manifestation of mental illness, but it could be a physical brain problem. I urge you to get to the bottom of this.

I agree with Shazerac. This is really concerning...particularly when you spilled hot tea on your hand. I hope you get this resolved. Good luck.

Yep, neurologist is a good place to start, especially with neck problems.
In general, you can see a chiropractor for neck problems. I don't know if many insurances cover it, but our family friend is a chiropractor and he's helped my back and neck problems a lot. They can even help with neck and back injuries in particular. My mom met him when she had slipped discs in her back. Obviously I don't know your specific situation, but just pointing out that a chiropractor may be an option in case a doctor wants surgery |

I agree with the above three posters. I believe it is sound advice. First I would see if your PCP will refer you to a neurologist before going the chiroprator route.

I have no disks at c3 and c4. There were membranes a few u years ago but not as of last year. It's bone on bone. It has been a problem for 25 years. Nobody will operate on it, unless I can raise 20k myself first and afford the trip to get it fixed, and the operation is a success, which has 20% success rate at this stage and a possible outcome of paralysis. No thanks. Pain pills do nothing for my pain and never have. Codeine works mildly but I'll never take it again because I was taking it during my daughter's last few band concerts in school and the auditory hallucinations totally ruined those experiences. Chiropractors are not a therapeutic thing for me, because they want to pull on my head which causes me to pass out, and not just during the office visit... Going down the road until I hit rumble strips, walking on heavy traffic street, anywhere. The pain is only just lessened by kratom tea, and that's the only thing that helps at all. I'm close to running out and can't afford more at this time so I'm saving what I have.
I've tried several of the modern "nerve tonics" like gabapentin, muscle relaxers (these help most of any prescribed thing but only if I use one a week or less), Lyrica, benzos, etc etc. Yoga helps as long as I don't do all the head/neck movements, and when I do I certainly know it. I've not been checked for a brain tumor and don't think it is. This isn't any of the above. This is like an altered state of things, like they just aren't real at all. VR headset kind of unreal. Shapes are mildly distorting on their own, while I look at them. The hard edges of things move in their place in space. Typing this has taken 45 minutes. |
