They've refused them to me in the distant past, but I knew what they were anyway. The doctor that refused also gave up on me and then lost his license within a year anyway for violating some rule, but I don't know which it was. I know my behaviours now and I know my symptoms and problems but don't know their specific thoughts. I do ask "what are your thoughts? Please be brutally honest and in my $4!+. I'm not physically violent and you can say anything. The worst I'll do is leave and not come back, but after everything I've been through, I can take anything." They are always straight up and 100%. I really don't need to see them.

I don't know if I would want to see them or not. I've been at the same office for 7years and on my second Pdoc. My files is two inches thick. It would take days to go through it all.

Sometimes I'm afraid I'll read something like "Whiney old hag just needs to get off her pitty pot and get her chit together."

I'm not sure, but I think they legally have to let you see them.

That doctor did a lot of illegal things, like forward-dating scripts

I would even hate to see my school records! Teachers used to threaten me, “That’s going in your permanent file!” I can only imagine my psych records from over a dozen doctors and therapists must say something similar as all my report cards, “T would be an outstanding student if she would only apply herself”.

Anyone from the school would threaten me with something going on my permanent record. From second grade on, I said "you're the one that has to carry it." I'd been told that for already two years and realized I would pass with my grades anyway or, when I got in third grade figured out that the threat of "you'll have to learn it again next year" also meant "you'll have to try to teach it to me again" which I always replied. I spent so much time in trouble that I didn't care any more by the end of first grade. I could do the work just fine but they were not very good at doing theirs

Yes. it is your legal right to obtain any of your medical records. You have to sign a release of information form. (Yes, you are releasing the info to yourself). I read all of my documents from my hospitalizations, both medical and psychiatric. Not a lot of surprises. Confirms some things for myself. I analyzed it then put it away in my drawer. Don't need to reread. I'm good.

I had to fight to get my drug screening results once. They didn't have any reason or legal right to keep them from me, but no one had made that request there before. I recommend everyone does that every time.

I'm no expert, but you might have a case, if you wish to pursue it. I've had a couple I regret not pursuing.

Two years ago I read all of mine in order to apply for disability on my own. The most interesting ones were the records from the hospital--I had two operations due to my attempt. I am ordering them again this month. I have been notified that my disability is being reviewed. It was nice that they waited until I got the medicare insurance to start the review. Though I continued to see my psych regularly so I can get my psych medications (quitting cold turkey contributed to my attempt) because our only income is mainly just my disability (I work part time but not that much) I just could not afford a T this year and haven't been to a primary care doctor for two years. I am doing that this month so they get a full picture of my health. In retrospect, being able to go to a T would have been nice. I am having a lot of relationship issues and it is tough to sort out how many of the issues come from my marriage and how many are due to my MI. Of course it is both but it would have been nice to talk to someone knowledgable to help me figure it out.

Might be an interesting read...to see how they interpret things I say...not really...my psych appts are basically 15min med checks. I dunno...maybe I'll just stick with my Kindle...
