I participated in the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s out of the darkness community walk today! It was amazing. Hundreds of people came to show support for suicide prevention. It was so moving to see so many people honoring loved ones who had passed and supporting People with mental illness. The speaker was a woman who had bipolar and had attempted herself. I felt really connected with her.

I want to do more of these things with the community. More for mental health advocacy. I may never have a career in mental health but I can still be involved.

So glad I was able to do this!

Good for you! I'm glad it was such a wonderful experience for you. I went to a "Walk A Mile In My Shoes" rally a few years ago & wound up in tears. It made me think of how far down the scale I have sunk. I used to teach, too, wildflowerchild, but became unable to work due to my mood swings & the absences they caused. I'm now on SSDI. I was such a successful teacher for 25 years, until MI brought me to my knees. Again, I'm glad mental health advocacy is something that bouys your spirits, but I don't think I'll ever be able to participate in another walk. I hate to admit it, but I think the fact that many of the participants were severely impaired added to my feelings of failure & despair.
