I recently spent three weeks inpatient after another overdose.
While I was there they did some (in my opinion) drastic med changes. They took me off lamictal and haldol and replaced them with trileptal and latuda. Haldol completely killed my creativity. Latuda hasn't at all. I've never felt more creative in all honesty. The problem I'm having is that these med changes are making me gain some serious weight. I've gained ten pounds in one month, without changing my eating habits at all. I was thinking about asking to go back on haldol and lamictal. What would you choose? Thin and foggy and no creative feelings at all. Or fat but really creative.

I would choose thin but that's only because I've never been very creative. But the foggy part? That would be a tough one for me. I like feeling sharp.

Yeah. I'm not really sure what to do. My overdose was because I had zero creative feelings at all and couldn't stand the thought of living that way the rest of my life (and obviously I was really depressed). It was an impulsive overdose (like all mine are).
But I also want to fit in my clothes and not have to buy an entire new wardrobe.

When it comes to stability, I would rather be overweight and stable than thin and crazy. If your new meds brings you a more balanced state then I would stay on them. You can always lose the weight but you can't keep overdosing.

I mean, I've seriously been averaging about a pound a day now. I guess I needed to buy new jeans anyway.

I'd go with the weight gain and creativity I think; though I'd be sure to put an hour on an exercise bike daily if I was having that sort of reaction. Not to stop the gain, but just to keep the metabolism and conditioning up to par.

I lost all my lithium weight on my new meds and I'm back to my ideal weight...I feel like s***...give me fat and jolly any day. Body image isn't, and never has been, an issue for me...

I would stay on the new meds .. The weight can be managed, it really can.
You need to be stable , you NEED stabilty. One of these days your OD'ing is going to happen.. that would devastate your family. Stop playing med woman and let your Pdoc take the lead. ![]()

You can add metformin to antipsychotics to mitigate weight gain although latuda is supposedly weight neutral

Can they put you on a lower dose of latuda? I gained a ton of weight on Zyprexa but when they lowered the dose I stabilized weight. I'm not completely stable but I can manage this.
