My insurance will no longer over my pristiq I have been in for over a year with success. I'm worried about it but remain optimistic. Saw pdoc today and he said I get depressed too easily not to be on some type of antidepressant. So he put me on Effexor xr 75mg.

Experiences? I want to remain stable!

Also! I DID ALL MY NEW HIRE PAPERWORK for my new job!

I have been on Effexor as part of my med cocktail for quite a while.
I have had no issues with it and it seems to help me.
I understand that coming off of it can be tough and you have to come of it slowly.
So far my experience with it has been good. I take 225mg a day.

Before my diagnosis I was on 500mg for 4 years. Looking back I think I was hypomanic most of that time. I had to go ip to go off it. It was a very uncomfortable experience. I hope it works well for you.

I took Effexor 200mg for over 4 years...and loved it. Very effective for depression and anxiety with no side effects except a bit of nausea the first few days after I started it.
When I had to stop it eventually my pdoc gave me a tapering schedule to follow over a couple of weeks and I had no discontinuation symptoms.
Hope it will do well for you too!

I was on about 180 per day. Like someone said before, for the majority of it I felt like I was in a hypomanic state but it did work amazingly to bump me out of my depression and not have anxiety. I quit it cold turkey because of a sexual side effect (not the smartest idea). I had to take a whole week of because of the withdrawal, had the closest I've ever had to a full manic episode, and was just plain miserable. I'd recommend trying it for sure but be smart if you have to come off it. I read the stories and still did it and paid!

Just keep up the awareness that Effexor is hell to get off of. I spent weeks having brain zaps after discontinuation.

Have you been on both? If so what did you think of Wellbutrin in comparison

Chemically, Pristiq is almost exactly the same as Effexor.
For the most part, Pristiq was a way to extend the patent on Effexor, more or less calling it a different drug & charging more when it's nearly the same (desvenlafaxine, vs. venlafaxine) 1mg pristiq is roughly equal to 2mg effexor. There is a page discussing this on the pro section of psychcentral. Hopefully that puts you at some ease.

That's interesting. I was just having this discussion about drug companies basically renewing patents on adhd drugs even though they're identical to make more money. I knew it was happening with psych drugs too just didn't know which ones exactly. Definitely worth some research!
