Has anyone else experienced a sort of immunity to your meds after taking them for a while? I’ve been on latuda for about a year and all of a sudden I’ve been experiencing such bad depressions that my doc decided to double my current dose.

I used to take celexa for my anxiety but I kept having to increase my dose until I maxed it out and had to switch meds.

I’m worried that if this happens with latuda that I’ll need a different drug and the thought of experimenting again scares me big time.

Any thoughts? Thanks guys!

Yes, this happens with me often. Coincidentally, it happened with Latuda and I switched to Abilify.

I don't know if it was becoming "immune" to medications, but I definitely went through a period when I'd need more meds. Be OK for a bit. Need even more. OK for a bit. Need even more. Etc. I do think that there was more at play in these cases than just medication poop out, but I think medication poop out is a real thing.

There was a time when I was on a huge cocktail of 7 psychiatric meds. Luckily my psychiatrist eventually HAD to take me off some of them because of side effects. I did find that when one medication was eventually taken away, that my dose(s) of another had to be increased.

I've been on some medications that just plain didn't do enough. Lithium was never nearly as effective for me as for other people. Neither was Geodon despite being on a high dose. But Seroquel XR (at a kind of high dose) has allowed me to get down to 4 from 7. I just found the right med that packs a good punch for me. I'm hoping that my Seroquel XR dose will eventually go down so that my hunger decreases. If it does and my symptoms come back, well, I guess I'll just have to go up again.
Thanks for this!

Everything my doc puts me on is to strong and makes me need constant sleep. Try some of my meds.

Ha, yes my meds seem like they’re not working sometimes.

Suddenly, Seroquel/quetiapine doesn’t make me sleep anymore and I have to triple the dose.

That means I’m going manic or hypomanic.

When it is over suddenly I am so sedated I can’t get up. So I cut the dose back again.

I guess you’re having this problem on the downside. That would be hard.

I’ve started lithium to try to cut this out

I know someone who has been on seroquel a long time. She acts as though she is not bipolar at all. I was on buspar, for anxiety :-(. Doctor took me off it was very heavy but that's not what made me sleep. Cogenton for side effects. And, heldol decimate which is for schizo, I'm bipolar schizo effective tblhey are not even treating me for bipolar anymore.

Invega did that to me ... I think eventually your body/brain just gets far to use of something and it poops out.

Med Merry Go Round sucks.

Hope you find a solution , there are so many med combos that can help, Dont lose hope

There is Genetic testing that can show what meds are more likely to work for you.
