see my post above

I am guessing from all these replies that it's just a UK thing the police have

but surely all police have the same stuff no matter what country they are in

Very strange to me as all my goggling and stuff it says its not possible here in the US .. Talk about needing police people hours to use a email to track down a person .. Did this person know your full name? or partial address?

I dont doubt what you said but here in the US I just dont understand how my email address ( I have numerous ones) could be literally tracked to my door.

I once I had a crisis line through my Pdoc and T office They had caller ID "then" I can see them knowing it was "me" and where I live etc ..

Im sorry this confuses me Maybe a tech savvy member will come along and explain how this happens..

Malicious people can tell from an email your Internet address n provider which can be broken down to the neighborhood you live in. Gmail has protection against this for a random person seeking your information but most other email services are wide open for a person to tell the general location of where u are mailing from, but not the actual address, but area u in.

Police can request from an Internet provider your home address where the mail was sent from, but in most cases will need a court order.

The above info is from the US, not sure about other countries, but I personally know how to figure out where someone is from unless using Gmail, good thing Im a good person .

As for the topic of this thread, I find forum use very interesting as for compulsive gambling its almost like there is zero forum usage, besides a few random forums that see no traffic. I use Reddit a lot for gambling addiction which has a Discord for group chat which is awesome. Reddit bipolar section is pretty busy like this forum. I really like Psychcentral Bipolar forum a lot as there is next to zero trolling, people are very supportive/nice and there is some great content and discussion on this board.

thank you slightlydelusional, that was informative and helpful. Glad I use gmail. I also agree with your sentiment about psychcentral bipolar forum. I have learned a lot and haven't noticed too much trolling either. I'm hoping this site will help keep me stable and away from addictions and unhealthy habits.

I really hate trolling, I just dont get it, but Im a Gen Xer and did not grow up with the Internet so in a different world.

This site has helped a lot for me. I was in a really bad depression earlier this year and was felt at deaths door and this forum was incredibly helpful. Im more stable now and love to come back and see people fighting hard against bipolar, depression and addiction.

Good luck with your journey Tecomsin!
