I'm starting to have racing thoughts and heightened sensations. I just started abilify this week too. Could there be a connection? Anyone experience abilify induced mania?

Hello Kafka. I can not be 100% sure, but I did have a severe manic episode with psychotic features come on in the past when on the combination of Abilify and Lamictal. It didn't happen immediately, though. Looking back I had been hypomanic on that combo for quite a while before.
I know Lamictal is activating for me (from other experiences, too), but I don't know if Abilify was, or if it was just ineffective at preventing mania. |

I had a terrible mixed episode on abilify and celexa. I don’t know which to blame. Even if it was the celexa, the abilify didn’t help to stop it. As such I will never take abilify again. Be careful.

I've been on Abilify for years & have never had anything approaching a full-blown manic episode due to it. Abilify is an atypical AP, so I doubt it would cause mania.

If you just started the abilify this week, its not even fully loaded in your system yet. If anything I'd think it'd stop the hypo once it gets up to speed, but only you and your doc can really make that call.

I was hypo at 15mg I attribute that to the abilify. Once I went up to 30mg all that went away and I am stable as can be.

My Dr told me it was activating and I found myself too anxious when on 15mg, so I stayed back down at 10mg. If you Google Abilify induced mania you will find some results.

I had a really bad reaction to ability. I was pacing, anxious, I couldn't sit down, I swore I heard things that weren't there. Maybe a mixed episode thinking back. It surely didn't bring me joy it was torture.

That sounds more like akathisia, a not uncommon side effect of certain antipsychotics. I had it with jAbilify and it's horrible. I also had it with Latuda. It's not any kind of mania. Cogentin or propranolol usually stop it if you want to continue on with the drug. I've never had any AP-induced mania. Abilify helped pull me out of a bad mania episode.
