Ugh. I hate showering. I haven't done it in three days. My husband told me that if I didn't willingly do it tonight he was going throw me in the shower, water running, clothes and all!

I wish I knew. It is hard to start it. Every time I get in, within a few seconds, I say how good it feels and am thankful for it. I am struggling today and that is one of two things I'm going to force myself to do this evening. The other is go for a walk. I know that both will help me.

Definitely with you! I should shower tonight but I really don’t want to.

I showered on Friday, but not since. If I recall correctly, I think I might have even washed my hair, but honestly, I'm not sure about that one. I shower more than washing my hair.

Being on disability and having some sex life issues doesn't help motivate me that much to do proper self-care. If I have enough pressures to do it, I will, but I have so few. On Friday my sister was coming, so that's why I showered. Plus, I hadn't showered for a while before that. I saw my dad yesterday, but I felt I was good enough, so I didn't bother doing more than brushing my hair and putting on some make up. Not a lot of makeup. Sometimes if I really do notice I stink I either finally shower or give myself a washcloth bath.

I have gone further downhill with self-care over the years. I've had issues with few showers/hair washings since disability, but in the beginning I brushed my teeth at least twice per day. Now I sometimes only brush them before I go to bed. The dentist has been sending me e-mail after e-mail of reminders to go to him for a checkup, but I ignore them because we don't have dental insurance, and I know my gums would bleed a lot since I never floss anymore. I'm pretty sure I don't have any cavities or other issues other than my teeth being grinded down (bad nervous/stress habit).

I had gone through a phase where I couldn't remember to shower. Now I like the feeling of shaving so I remember

I wonder if part of it is simply inertia? We're like a tumblin' tumbleweed. Seems like its easier if you take showers 2 or 3 days in a row, but if you skip one day, next thing you know its been a week.

I agree Luna. I notice that on a lot of things and it makes sense. If I go for a walk 2 days in a row I'm more likely to the next...then if I miss a day it turns into several....

We gotta keep ourselves strong. It is good for me to see that others have similar struggles but I also want us all to boost each other up.

SO let's all shower and go for a walk yet this evening!!

We will be more likely to do the same tomorrow.

I am with piano on this one.
4-5 days then I force myself to take a shower. Then I end up running out of hot water too soon so I get frustrated.
ugh!

I used to love showering years ago, but now I am in the exact same boat. Once I get out of the shower though I always feel so much better.

Just made it a personal law , works for me

This makes it easier. Put the towel where you can get it without opening the door or curtain. Dry off as much as you can before opening door/curtain. Wrap your head in a towel, then get back into bed until you feel dry.

This way, you don’t get cold. I feel that getting cold saps energy I just don’t have.

I find it so hard too. I have very thick curly hair that only needs to be washed 2x a week at most, so my rule is when I'm having a hard time showering, once my hair gets to be a greasy, ratty mess I MUST shower. So at least I shower once or twice a week. (unless it gets really, really bad, and then well showering is not high on my priority list. lol)

I read that many of the women mentioned hair washing as being an incentive to jump in the shower. As a guy, all I have to do is throw on a baseball cap & I'm good to go - at least from outward appearance. I have trouble getting in the shower, too. I've often wondered why...but I know when my sex life was more of an issue, I showered daily (I never knew when I'd "get lucky." ) Alas, as I've grown older, it's become harder to "suffer" through a shower.

There were issues of self harm for me in the shower from the past. I wonder if that is why they are so hard to take for me?

I find cutting my nails a lot harder.

I take a shower every 2 days. At most, I'll go 3 days.

I know I've had a hard time getting to the shower. A lot of it is just being tired all the time. But once I take a shower, I feel better. I think the grunge slows me down.

I don't know why it's so tough for me, too. It doesn't take long and I feel better afterward. I am getting better at daily showers.

I finally took a shower. I think last time was Sunday. I didn’t take it until 2pm though so I went to group wearing a kerchief over my hair. Luckily I can sort of pull that off.
