My insurance is screwing with my weekly visits and I'm pissed. Before I get too mad though I wanted to see how often others with BP go to therapy. Weekly, monthly? What say you?

I'm in Canada. When I went to public free therapy I went every 2 weeks. Now I'm in private therapy and go every week. Super expensive, but I needed dbt therapy and there is a 2 year wait for that public program.

I go weekly but I am going through an especially tough time. When I was a teenager I went once a month or every two weeks

Weekly seems to be the popular choice. I need to go weekly but my insurance company wants to know why I need it and when I'll be all better. All better?! WTF! I'll never be better. Do they ask a diabetic when they can stop it already with all the shots! They seem to be leaning toward once a month to every 2 weeks. I'm not okay with either. I think I would stop going before I cut it down to that little.

I used to go weekly. Now I'm going every other week (which is more a result of their busy schedule than my improved mental health).

I have mostly been going every other week for several years. There were times when I went to out of network tdocs that I went as infrequently as every 3 weeks, but I felt that was too infrequently.

If I'm very unwell my tdoc will offer weekly sessions. I've done that, but usually only for a few weeks. If I'm VERY unwell and may be for a while, my psychiatrist suggests an Intensive Outpatient Program. In all cases, my tdoc has been in agreement with him.

I believe that I see my psychiatrist more often than many other people. He also gives me at least 20 mins. I see him on average every 3 weeks, but more than once per month. Given that, seeing my tdoc more than every 2 weeks is not really necessary. When I am unwell or having major medication adjustments I see my psychiatrist every other week or even more. When very unwell, I sometimes see my psychiatrist more than my therapist. My psychiatrist offers some therapy in the 20 mins, though he insists that I have a therapist, too, whom I see for 1 hour sessions.

Because of my psychiatrist's caring and attention, I have avoided hospitalization for 8 years now, despite some pretty awful manias and depressions.

I see my t every week and my pdoc currently every 2-3 weeks. I am unstable right now, and this is the reason for seeing the pdoc so often. Sometimes it is weekly as well depending on the newness of meds.
I use my husband's insurance, which offers excellent coverage. There are no limitations or preauthorizations in place for services. We pay for family coverage, but if it was just him he would receive the coverage without any extra cost. My job also has insurance which is offered as a benefit as well; however, it is so bad that I opt out of it.

I'm not able to go for a few months while I'll be living abroad, but in general I see my T at a university clinic that's underfunded and understaffed, so if I'm lucky I get to see my T once every two weeks. When it's busy it can be three weeks and once I even had to wait a month and a half. That was really hard.
When things are really really bad I wish I could go to therapy once a week. But most of the time I think once every two weeks is good for me.

I go weekly for now. I’ll probably go weekly until Valentine’s Day is over, and then I’ll consider going every other week, because I have to get through Christmas, my late husband’s birthday in January, then our anniversary in January (and he was in the hospital from @Halloween to near the end of January when he passed away), then my birthday, then Valentines Day, my God. I can’t stand the stretch between Halloween and Valentine’s Day.

OK, anyway, this might work. Find out what your policy covers. If they are messing with you, find out the name of the claim rep denying your claim for weekly treatment. When they ask why you need it, tell them you are filing a complaint with the insurance commissioner.

If they keep messing with you, tell them that you will be happy to file an appeal, but first you’re going file the complaint with the insurance commissioner.

It is amazing how helpful they become.

It has varied since 1985.

First, I was weekly.

Then I was inpatient, so, daily.

Then it was back to weekly.

Then it was back to inpatient, again. Daily.

Weekly.

Inpatient for three+ years. Every other day? A different atmosphere than the very-much-for-profit, great food, intense ‘mental health clinics’ of my previous incarceration.

Weekly. Rigorous inpatient therapy for seven days. Weekly. Biweekly. Monthly. I’ve not seen my therapist in four months. And no plans to see anyone, now.

I have nothing to go over, now. A year ago? A little longer? The rigorous therapy - I came clean, a confession. I spoke of the unspoken. I grieved the dead and buried them. I socialized more often.

Things got better.

I had a touch of full blown mania in August of last year but it was short-lived.

I still have fears. The abandonment thing.

I just don’t feeling a need for therapy, now. I am better.

So, no more therapy, just now.

I think BirdDancer has a good point to make with your insurance. Regular, frequent therapy sessions can help prevent hospitalizations.

For what it’s worth, I go weekly.

I don't like my therapist, so I don't go anymore. I have a lot of anxiety about most things. Especially leaving my house. She is all into exposure therapy and I just can't handle it.

I'm going weekly, but my therapist wants me to go every two weeks, so after the next week, I will start every two weeks.

I'm not sure how I feel about it, but it's 100% my fault. I'm not being open and honest with her, so she thinks there is nothing wrong and that I'm doing well. But I can't be fully honest because I'm afraid she will hospitalize me or something!

Have you told her that you dislike exposure therapy? If you have told her and she continues to do it anyway, then IMO, you should find another therapist. Fire her.

I was going once every 2-3 weeks, but I've become less stable, and now, I go once a week, when I can.
