For the past 2 years, all i ever hear about are rich men and celebrities abusing women and children and getting away with it, dictators killing their own people, terrorist attacks, constant political fights and even violence and government corruption. Im so f'ing glad i didnt vote in 2016, because now everyday i hear about donald trumps corruption and now a new scandal with the clintons atop all the previous scandals. I wish we could just do away with all these politicians and celebrities and start fresh. Starting with helping people who need healthcare and assistance, say for mental health. Im honestly thinking about marrying my best friend from Sweden just to finally get some real help. Idk why, but suddenly today ive had it with humanity and im mad as hell.

I hear you on that. It makes it so hard to trust people with all this horrible stuff going on. It makes me really angry too, and I wish there's more that could be done.

I actively stay away from the news , not being an ostrich with my head in the ground but mentally I can’t handle it right now for months

I have a lot of very socially-conscious Facebook friends (and I usually am one) who keep up with all the happenings in this world, and sometimes I just have to take a break from Facebook for several weeks. My mental state can't take it all. When I'm in the mood for some selective news, I watch the Daily Show episodes on my computer because at least it will make me laugh.

I don't watch or read the news. Every time a news site pops up on FB I block it. I have been off FB more than on this year. When I feel like the world is a terrible place to be, I do something positive. My husband and I have adopted families at Christmas 4 times. I have spent many hours in my life volunteering. I try to smile at people I see and give out random compliments. I have bought food or coffee for homeless people when its cold out. I may not be able to change the world, but I can make a difference. I believe in the good in the world.

I went to college for journalism and in one of my classes we were taught about "mean world syndrome". Basically it means that in order to get views, news teams pick the most horrendous things to report on.

For example which newspaper are you more likely to look at, one that says "EBOLA TO WIPE OUT HUMAN RACE?" or "EBOLA KILLS ONE PERSON, 99% OF PEOPLE UNAFFECTED"

Because of the media doing this people fall victim to mean world syndrome which leads them to believe the world is actually a much meaner and unsafe place than it actually is.

In reality the human race is both good and bad but we are lightyears ahead of where we once were in terms of ethics.

I hope this makes you feel better. There is so much good in the world, but it goes unnoticed because our brains are hardwired to focus on the bad.

Hope you feel better

Bewise- I hear you. Some days it seems like we would be doing the planet a favor if our species went extinct already...
But. I do believe that human race is mostly good. It's the big things you hear about in the news like terrorism and violence etc that can make us feel like our species is doomed.

But I believe that it's the little things I see every day that restore my faith in humanity, like coworkers donating toys to the needy, or a kind driver actually letting me pull in ahead of them, or a stranger at a group smiling at me to make me feel more comfortable, or a neighbor who walks across the street to give me a mail package of mine that she found in the road by my car...
I try to focus on the small goods rather than the big bads. Idk if that helps at all. Hang in there.

Next time, VOTE! We all need to be heard by our government.
