Lately, my thoughts seem so "loud." It's especially bad before bed, but I am starting to realize that they are getting so loud in a way where it seems detached from me, as in definite auditory hallucinations. The voices mostly come at night, although I get chatter during the day too. Racing thoughts are so bad lately too all day every day.

Another recent annoyance: musical hallucinations. If you've experienced this, how long did it take for them to go away?? What helped? Do you get them when manic or depressed or mixed??

Usually, I am not as concerned about them when they are soft or fleeting, but they are so loud, it's freaking me out and getting so bothersome. It's especially concerning that they are persistent. Medication only helps to a point. Any suggestions on ways you cope with voices, especially nighttime ones would also be helpful.

It got better for me when I was switched to Zyprexa. The noise in my head is quieter. Can your pdoc up your AP or give you one as PRN? I don't have to be in a mood to have my head go haywire on me. When it's really bad I put headphones on and blare music and really really hard concentrate on the words of that song. Sorry I can't be more help.

I would just talk to your pdoc. If you are not on an antipsychotic, and they are bothersome they might add one. If you are on one they might do some adjusting.

I hear voices pretty regularly. If you know they aren't real, honestly, it just takes some time and maybe talk therapy. If this isn't normal for you, there might be a stressor triggering this. (Therapy can come in handy here as well.) My voices get worse whenever life gets worse. This is often when my mood is worse too, for obvious reasons. I've heard it's more common to hallucinate when manic though for a lot bipolar people. Additionally, deep breathing to relax, when the voices become bothersome, is also helpful.

Thank you. I'm already on an anti psychotic (Seroquel). I need to see if a higher dose will work. Although I often know the sounds and voices aren't real, they feel real at the time, keep me from sleeping which means an increase in mania. Paranoia increases too at night. I guess I'll just have to wait and see when a medication increase kicks in.
