Yesterday I took some cold meds that had DM in them and I have never freaked out like that before. It was like a panic attack that lasted over an hour. And horrible flash backs from from a time in my life that was very traumatizing. I took so many PRN's and still felt like hell. I didn't want to sleep alone, so I crawled in bed with Bowie ( my 8 year old). We cuddled and that calmed me down and I was finally able to sleep. I am never touching that shiit again!

Thanks for sharing this. Something I'll have to watch for. Glad you got in some kid cuddles though. Those are the best.

What’s DM? For me it’s Depeche Mode.

I've never had an issue with cold medicine before.

It's a cough suppressant they put in some cold meds. I was taking buckly's cough and cold meds. Too much DM can cause big problems in even normally stable people, especially bad for the MI. It's not in all cold meds, just some. It usually says DM right on the front of the box.

DM stands for dextromethorphan. Try saying that 10 times really fast.

Getting high off robitussin or “robotripping” was popular in my high school years amongst the “edgy” crowd. Personally I was too scared to ever try anything like that for fear of permanent damage. I’m glad I didn’t, I doubt it would have played well with my MI, which was symptomatic at the time, including mild psychosis.

I shudder to think what would have happened to me if I had messed around with drugs. There was a time in high school when I only hung out with musicians, and they were experimenting. Ugh.
