so.....

I am doing it. legally changing my name.

not to davy jones though. I'm going to have a serious think about what I want it to be (because I'll be stuck with it), and then start the process.

I have had time to think and certainly see the benifits

You will have a lot of work changing everything to your new name. I do not understand why anyone would want to change their name. What is the benefit? Still, if it is what you want to do, then go for it. Just make sure are doing it for the right reasons.

You could change your name to your official pirate name...found here:

https://forums.psychcentral.com/gene...rate-name.html

My name was "Surly Kidd McStinky." I think that would look sweet on my driver's license!

Im changing my name because i dont like my family and having their last name connects me with them. Its revolting.

I wish, now, that I had submitted the paperwork to change my last name on my 18th birthday.

Not that I don’t have pride in my ancestry but I have devoted so much time in correcting others as they repetitiously attempt to pronounce my name and I have to interrupt them with the correct pronunciation and then I have to explain the entire 17th century Charleston, SC slave-trade scheme and the migration (flight of fear) from the east coast to the west...

I’m guessing that you’ve a valid reason to change your name?

No, Davy Jones would just remind others of death (Davy Jones’ Locker) or The Monkees.

I’ve always thought that Earnest (spelled with the ‘a’) was a fine, even noble, name.

Perhaps you could devise a poll with, oh, six names, maximum, for others to vote on?

I wanted to change my name to Max Power a few years ago but City Hall told me it was taken. Then I decided on Coffee McBean but my wife said no.

This makes sense to me. You must have had an absolutely terrible time with them to do this. It can be part of a new beginning for you.
