Idk if I believe my t when he says he doesn't tape sessions. It's been on my mind and I don't know why. He says he doesn't but what if he does and then later he listens with his friends and they all laugh at me?

I so highly doubt that. I know I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I made fun of the people here on PC. I can't imagine someone that went to school specifically to help people laughing at them.

Not all of our troublesome thoughts are related to mood episodes. Do you have other concerns about your therapist? Is there anything that could allay your concerns.

From psychology today https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog...herapy-session

Quote:
"When a therapist records a session, they have a legal and ethical directive that ensures the recording is heard only by the therapist (and supervisor, if they have one) for training purposes. Licensed professionals who will lose their career if they divulge the contents of that recording, which is to be destroyed as soon as its no longer valuable data for the case. They need your consent to record, and the recording is not a memory aid, but a way for mentors to hear the actual words of the therapist to help guide them."

I asked him and he says no he doesn't and has only done so when he was training in school. For some reason I still worry. He asked me last time if I was paranoid and I'm wondering

"I still worry" seems like a paranoid phrasing to me, but you decide if and if so, why.

There are several parts to this. He's secretly recording and sharing with other people and they are laughing at you. You have clearly gotten some kind of vibe from him that leads to these thoughts. Do you have some reason to doubt what he says when he denies recording?

When I start worrying if what I say or did in therapy makes me the butt of a joke or dinner table conversation, I remind myself that I am just not that special. That my t would spend her private time thinking or listening to secret tapes about me when she could be spending it with her family is just wishful thinking. Sometimes I wish I were so important to my t that she would focus on me 24/7 but she doesn't and I am pretty important to her.

I hear what y'all are saying but I can't make myself accept it as truth. I want it to be true.

Regardless whether or not you regard it true is irrelevant. There’s a term for this, it’s called paranoia.

You mentioned paranoia - which occurs with Bipolar. As you have already considered it I would encourage you to explore this possibility further.

I see absolutely no reason why a psychiatrist would do this. Doing so puts their entire career at risk. Would he really do so?

I have been taped, but I was participating in student learning - and was advised it may be used for training purposes. I firmly believe my own psychiatrist has never done so, although twice he asked if he could talk about the session with a colleague.

Talking to Matt will help you understand that this is in fact paranoia on your part.

Maybe send him a quick short email about this fear so it will be addressed right off the bat.

I think missing that one week of T has you tilted sideways a bit is all.

What method do you think he's using to record? Device? If it's phone, have him leave his cell at the front desk. Any understanding t should be ok with that.

Many years ago when pagers were a thing but not a super common thing had myself completely convinced my therapist was recording sessions with the thing that looked like a recorder but was really the pager. He moved it to his back pocket after that I think.
