Medication question

Sorry, I know there are more relevant forums I could post this in, but this forum is way more active and I know I'm not the only one who takes this medication.

So I normally take a 2mg extended release Xanax each morning. However, I moved to Ecuador last month and just ran out of my 2mg Xanax and had to get a new prescription from a doctor here. The problem is, Ecuador does not have 2mg Xanax tablets. So, my doctor prescribed me 1mg tablets (instant release), two per day.

My question is, should I take both in the morning? Or should I take one in the morning and one in the afternoon, since they are not extended release? Thank you.

I would take one in the morning and one in the afternoon. That way it should act like the extended release.

yes divide them up, I would take the last one close to bed time to help you sleep. And actually I would ask for klonipin it does not have the spikes like xanax has.

I wish I could, unfortunately I used to be addicted to klonopin and it ruined my life so I don't ever want to take it again

It depends why you're taking them. I'm prescribed 2mg as needed and I find that 1mg by itself doesn't work on extreme anxiety. But if I'm taking it for sleep (which I try not to do) I take 1mg. You should be careful about taking 2mg of Xanax everyday; it's usually prescribed as PRN. People who need to take benzos everyday seem to use clonapine at a low dose instead.

I take it every day for generalized anxiety. It's the only medication I've ever taken that's ever helped with anxiety, and lower doses were not effective. (I also have 1mg Xanax prescribed as PRN for when I have panic attacks.) I have tried many other anxiety medications that did not work, including klonopin, which I got badly addicted to and will never touch again. (Klonopin was ineffective for my anxiety... extremely effective for getting stoned.)
