My new pdoc strongly advised me try Prozac. I told her I would not try anything that caused weight gain. She assumed me it’s weight neutral. Has anyone tried Prozac in the last few years? If so what were your experiences with the med?

Weight neutral.
Did not work for me.

I hope you find whatever works well for you.

Definitely weight neutral. Too high of dose too quickly sends me straight manic. Slow increase with other meds was fine. Added bonus - my doc claims it’s killer for paranoia. Don’t know about the last. I’m still waiting for it to work with paranoia. But as an antidepressants I like it. I have no side effects from it.

No probs or weight gain using Prozac. Works well with Buproprion. No matter the path I take between ADs, I eventually end up with Prozac again. I had no probs with hypomania, but I am BP II. I also had at least one AP when I took this SSRI. Now I have an AP and a MS.

I have heard that a lot. But I know Prozac is the fall back and I don’t think a lot doctors or patients fully understand how things can go so wrong. I’m BP1 by the way. Different people different reactions I guess.

I think each drug is different for everyone. I had my first psychotic break on Prozac. I was not diagnosed bipolar at the time so my doc didn't know to try mood stabilizers. Prozac made me hallucinate my imaginary friend from childhood in the room w me and he was telling me to cut myself. I did. Luckily my roommate came home and found me. He dosed me w xanax and hung out w me until I calmed down.

I tried to give myself a tummy tuck on it. I was only on it for a little while. That scared the hell out of me.

SSRIs tend to put me off food if anything (food and sex) (but they also make me very edgy)

It's mirtazipine you want to avoid for weight gain

Weight neutral but it killed my libido. I usually get put on it in IP and only stay on it a few weeks though to get out of a funk.

Took it a long time ago. Basically I was flat and then it stopped working. I don't remember weight gain, though some people may have it.

Found out much later via genetic testing that I don't metabolize it at all. I'm now limited to what I use and they're all expensive.

Oh wow...I’ve had Celexa flip me into mania but at the time we had no clue I was BP1. I was also not on a mood stabilizer. I was able to take Zoloft with no mania (low dose) but I was on a Lithium by then.
