My pdoc told me to start taking my Abilify at night instead of in the morning because it can make you sleepy. Has anyone experienced this? I had been taking Abilify in the mornings for about 2.5 years.

The thing is, since I've done that (2 days ago) I haven't been able to sleep more than 3-4 hours and I've been jumping out of my skin at night. During the day I'm hyper: wired, wired, wired. Which I have attributed to just feeling 'normal' after so long of being sedated on the morning Abilify? Or I may be on my way to becoming hypomanic, I truly don't know...

Point is, is that the 2 changes since taking Abilify at night have been being wired during the day AND night. Why would this be? Unless not taking Abilify in the morning, for some reason, has led me to begin to go into a hypomanic episode. I'm so confused...

I've been taking Abilify for months. Just this week, I have started to take it at night. I am taking just 4 mg. I have found I am less tired in the daytime.
I do take temazepam at night.

Given the half life of that drug, its surprising that moving the time of taking it would have that strong of an impact.

I take mine in the morning, and don't really notice much of anything as far as immediately before and after. Been on it for just short of a year now....

add: to answer the question though, it doesn't make me tired and didn't do anything to help me sleep. So I vote wired, mildly.

This med never made me tired or wanting to sleep. All it did is make my body shake all over, including my arms and legs. I put up with this for a couple days until I was able to see my doctor. He took me off of it, and soon afterwards, I was fine.

Neither. I took it at bed time with other meds and a sleeping pill. Didn't notice an effect either way.

What dose are you taking?I've heard that at a low dose it can be very activating since it functions like an antidepressant. I personally became hypomanic on 2.5 mg of it.

I actually feel this urge to try Abilify but at a higher dose (believe 10mg and over is safe) since I hear it isn't as sedating once you get used to it compared to other APs, but idk don't wanna do anything too risky just yet

It didn't matter to me as it didn't work, so I guess tired would be a choice since I was still depressed.

I forget what time I took that med, but during the course on that med along with Lamictal I gradually grew full blown manic with psychosis and had to be hospitalized. They took me off that med.

As referenced above, I was only ever high energy on Abilify and Lamictal. I felt GREAT until it got way out of control. I was exercising up a storm and hypersexual most of the time. I remember losing some good weight.

I've not taken Abilify since the above time, but a small dose of Lamictal was added to my mix. Lamictal is activating for me and requires plenty of antipsychotic to keep mania away. If Abilify was not activating for me, it was definitely not sedating or a sufficient mania stopper.

I’ve been told Abilify is activating so it should be taken in the morning.
I hated taking Abilify. It turned my hand tremor into an awful dystonia situation. It also made me physically agitated.
I was not on it for long.

For me ambilify is very activating at 6mgs and I have to take it during the morning or I will be up all night. Haven't had any side effects from it so the doc has been slowly raising the dosage.

I'm taking 15mg as an AP. I'm starting to wonder from these responses why my pdoc told me it would make me sleepy and to take it at night. Previous pdocs have told me to take it in the morning.

I was wired I guess. Not enough time taking to know.
