First thing first: it seems that meds don’t negate the bipolar symptoms, it masks it and makes it more tolerable. To stone it would be to take a huge dose of meds and me to be unfunctionable- not happening. We’ve been cycling (ultra rapid) more pronounced then normal lately (past months awhile), getting more noticeably worse. Of course, we have been taking the same meds for a few years, especially now being we don’t have a pdoc, but just a md prescribing the same o same o due to crappy next to no insurance woes. Just the idea of trying new meds and running a maintenance shop at the same time is so unfathomable so much that we refrain from doing. So many questions: is it the end of this drugs usefulness? How much suffering for us and those around us would be deemed tolerable? Will I go off the deep end and lose it all? It’s also mind spinning so much that I don’t want to try anything...just hoping that maybe it’ll just get better. I guess I’m going to have to buy a pdoc at full price and swallow the horse pills that they are going to be giving me. Not happy. How does and how well did it go for you and your experience? I need support for doing the right thing which eludes me: stay, it’ll get better, or go and fix it. Thanks. |

If you can I would fix it. Or maybe you just need to have higher doses of your meds and that would help.

I'm so sorry. Sometimes, it just happens. I think it can just be brain chemistry changing or even life events affecting how well meds work. Your body can get used to the same dosage, and it becomes less effective. Sorry about you having to pay full price for a pdoc. So do I...our stupid so-called health insurance has a $7500 deductible, and the pdoc is $65 dollars a visit...ugh!
If I were you, I'd spend the money and try to fix it. Otherwise, without a doctor's supervision, you could make things worse. |

![]() Thank God at least the meds are $39.00/bottle over the uninsured price of $600.00. |

I think I'd try to "fix it,' if it's possible.
Sorry about the limitations of your insurance coverage. I have the same problem. My pdoc is $165.00 per visit, with a several thousand dollar deductible. ![]() WC

Has something changed that is making symptoms worse? More stress maybe?
Do you have a good memory of what meds you’ve already tried? You can request records if you need to. Of course I support seeing a pdoc. The ones where I live want to do an intake appointment, which takes longer. |

Are you on mood stabilizers? Personally, they never agreed with me except for lithium which doesn't do much. I'm on SSDI and get good insurance coverage for doctors.

Also-read about the mood stabilizers before your appointment so you can make a good decision with the choice(s) presented to you.
I’ve been listening to the Bipolar Survival Guide on YouTube. Chapter 2 talks about the medications. I learned why my mood stabilizer works so well for me. I have one of the patterns it works well for. |

I also recommend trying to fix it if you can. It may seem like the more difficult choice but it will be worth it if you feel better.
